Earlier this week NBC announced that the upcoming season of the long-running sitcom ‘The Office’ will be its last. Now, news has broken via Deadline that casting has started for the spin-off series entitled The Farm.
Actress Majandra Delfino, best known for her role in the fan favorite series ‘Roswell’, will play the sister of Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) – Yes, you read that right, his sister! This spin-off will be introduced in an upcoming episode of ‘The Office’ later this season.
‘The Farm’ will have Dwight living at the family’s beet farm and bed and breakfast with Majandra as his younger sister Fannie, who left the family farm for life in Boston, but she is come back home, divorced and with a child. The sitcom comes from Wilson and Paul Lieberstein, a former executive producer and showrunner of ‘The Office’.
Among Delfino’s credits are the recently defunct ABC Family comedy ‘State of Georgia’ as well as the made-for-TV movie ‘Celeste in the City’ and the box office films ‘Life As We Know It’ and ‘Traffic’.
‘The Farm’ has not been given an actual premiere date on NBC, but given the fact ‘The Office’ will end after this upcoming season, it is safe to hazard a guess that the spin-off could be seen as part of next year’s TV season.
