NBC Bringing ‘Dracula’ to Small Screen with Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Lead July 25, 2012 News NBC, in conjunction with Sky Living, one of the UK’s ultimate entertainment destinations on TV, will co-produce Dracula, a provocative new drama series based on the classic novel by Bram Stoker that will star Golden Globe winning actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, of ‘The Tudors’ fame, in the title role. The 10-episode series introduces Dracula as he arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier. There’s only one circumstance that can potentially thwart his plan: Dracula falls hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. Based on a script by co-executive producer Cole Haddon, the series will be executive produced by Emmy winner Colin Callender (‘The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby’), former president of HBO Films, Tony Krantz (’24’ and ‘Sports Night’), Gareth Neame (‘Downton Abbey’), Anne Mensah from Sky Living and Universal Television. ‘Dracula’ is the latest in a series of co-productions by Sky Living, which already includes ‘Treasure Island’ and ‘Strike Back’ among its projects. Among Rhys Meyers credits are the made-for-TV movie ‘Elvis’ and the box office films ‘Bend It Like Beckham’, ‘August Rush’, ‘Match Point’ and ‘Mission Impossible: III’. Additional casting and production details will be announced at a later date. No air date has been set by NBC either.
