Hey folks! Well it’s that time of year again and starting tomorrow night, Comic-Con 2012 will commence for five days of long lines, huge crowds, costumes (both good and bad), $10 hot dogs and of course…pure geek joy.
This will be my 6th year attending Comic-Con and every year I learn a little bit more about how to traverse through the extensive convention center to see everything that I need to see. Last year was the first time I attended as full press and I didn’t go to the Supernatural panel; opting instead to interview the cast and crew in the press room (a very fair trade in my opinion).
This year I will again be spending most of my time in press rooms, which means that I may not get to partake in many of the Supernatural events/goodies being offered at the con this year. But just because I’ll be missing out on some of the fun stuff, that doesn’t mean you guys have to. So here’s a guide to some of Supernatural events you’ll find at Comic-Con 2012.
I was there the first year that Supernatural had a panel at Comic-Con and I attended every single one after that until I moved into the press room. In some ways I miss going to the panel as there’s just nothing like sitting in a room full of screaming Supernatural fans and getting to hear all of the actors and crew talk about our favorite show. Plus, they often show some really great clips; such as the year we got to see the first five minutes of the season premiere, as well as part of the gag reel from soon-to-be- released DVD of the previous season.
The Supernatural panel used to be held in smaller convention rooms but once they realized that it was packed every year, and that there were always disappointed fans who never got in, they finally moved it to the massive Hall H. This year it will start at 11:15am, but also in Hall H that day are panels for shows like Fringe and Dr. Who; which means that if you want a seat, my recommendation is to camp out over night or get out there super-duper early (before dawn).
Last year the autograph signing with the Supernatural cast was cancelled, but as of now it’s still on this year. Keep in mind though that the WB recently changed their autograph policy, so if you want to get signatures, you’re going to have to jump through a few hoops. Check out the details in this press release from the WB for more info.
Right now, the WB schedule says that autographs will be held on Sunday, July 15 from 10:15am to 11:00am. But things like that can always change, so be sure to stay tuned to the WB website for updated information throughout the con.
This year, Supernatural gets its very own special edition TV Guide cover. Actually it’s two covers, since the magazines are “flips,” with one version of the cover on the outside and another version on the inside. These special edition TV Guide magazines will be distributed from the WB booth at Comic-Con, beginning preview night on Wednesday July 11, and continuing through Sunday July 15. There’s no set time as to when these will be given out so you’ll just have to keep checking back throughout the con and be ready to grab them when you see them – and be ready to wait in a line to get them.
Check out larger versions of the Supernatural TV Guide covers at the WB site.
I know not all of you will be able to attend Comic-Con this year, but have no fear Supernatural fans, you can still join in on the fun. Many people will be attending the con and posting updates on Twitter. I’ll be there representing TV Equals all week and I’ll be reporting live from the Supernatural press room on Sunday afternoon (from about 12:30pm to 1:30pm).
You can follow me on Twitter @mokibobolink. You can also follow Warner Brothers at @TheWBdotcom (hashtag #WBSDCC). Many people attending the panel will be updating Twitter with every single tidbit so following along is almost like being there yourself, plus usually within minutes of the panel being over, people will be posting bits of the panel on Youtube so you can watch it there. Just search use the hashtag #SDCC and #Supernatural and you should be able to keep up with all the action going on at the con.
So there it is, my guide to all things (okay, most things, since I’m sure I’ve probably missed some) Supernatural at Comic-Con 2012. If any of you have any tips or other info about Supernatural-related events, releases, collectibles, or anything else going on at the con that you think your fellow fans would like to hear about, sound off in the comments to share the love.
Be sure to stay tuned to TV Equals as we’ll be posting all interviews from the press room on Monday morning (July 16). You can find all our coverage of Comic-Con right here.
