Jimmy Smits to Pay a Visit to the ‘Sons of Anarchy’

Actor Jimmy Smits, best known for his good guy role of Bobby Simone on ‘NYPD Blue’, will soon be taking up the bad guy mantle this time in the form of a recurring role on the FX series Sons of Anarchy.

He will join the cast in a major, season-long arc playing Neron “Nero” Padilla, a Latino gangbanger with an exit strategy, who becomes a dangerous mentor for Jax (Charlie Hunnam). According to Deadline, Nero is “envisioned as being heavily tattooed and definitely won’t be wearing a suit” (which is the fashion most easily associated with characters played by Smits).

This won’t be the first time Smits has gone to the dark side, though. TV viewers of ‘Dexter’ will remember him as the scheming ADA Miguel Prado.

Among Smits other TV credits are ‘L.A. Law’, ‘The West Wing’ and the short-lived series ‘Outlaw.

A return date for the fifth season of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ has yet to be announced; but it can be expected back at some point this year.
