Primeval Spin-Off to Star ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Sara Canning

Actress Sara Canning, best known for her role as Aunt Jenna on ‘The Vampire Diaries’, has landed the lead role in the Canadian spin-off series Primeval: New World, which received a 13-episode order for its debut season. The series will air on the Canadian channel SPACE and is a co-production between Canada and the United Kingdom.

‘Primeval: New World’ will follow a specialized team of animal experts and scientists that investigates the appearance of temporal anomalies and battles both prehistoric and futuristic creatures; much like the U.K. original series ‘Primeval’ for which the show is, of course, based on.

Besides Canning, the cast includes actor Niall Matter (Eureka), Miranda Frigon (Heartland) and Danny Rahim (Eastenders) as well as ‘Primeval’ series regular Andrew-Lee Potts, who will make guest appearances.

There is no U.S. distributor as of yet; but given the proclivity of Canadian series being picked up by networks here in the States it is very likely that ‘Primeval: New World’ will make it here soon enough. [Source: Pop Culture Zoo and KStiteTV]
