So how do I put this politely? What the hell is going on with Project Runway All Stars??? If it were not for these weekly reviews, Project Runway All Stars would have been out of my weekly television viewing after this week’s episode.
Where to begin…
I’m still trying to accept that Anthony was given the boot last week over the atrocities created by Michael and Jerell. Kenley can help Kara finish clothes but somehow this competition is about rules and principles. Bullshit. Okay Project Runway, fair enough.
It’s Wrestlemania fashion-mania week. The contestants are charged with creating sports wear for a weekend getaway look. The designers are paired off by seasons to engage in a good ol’ fashioned designer face off.
Like Mondo, I’ve been saying since episode one of this all star season that Kenley sends the same look down the runway week after week after week. She did it during her season of Project Runway and is doing it now. Jerell is also guilty of this practice so it was nice to see him depart from his normal aesthetic this week, particularly after he was allowed to stay despite designing one of the worst outfits I’ve ever seen on Project Runway.
After teetering on a more confident approach to his designing, Michael has reverted back to his martyr at the fashion show role. There is nothing that Michael could say to anyone in the design room or those of us viewing at home to convince us that he did not borrow from Jerell’s idea. Rather than be the victim, it would have been nice to see him own it and simply tell Jerell, “yes, I stole your idea bitch. I’m going to show you how this jacket should really be made.” Wishful thinking. Instead, we got Michael the blameless victim. The same person who somehow made Anthony’s departure all about him to the point where he was the one being consoled. Ugh.
Kudos to Joanna Coles for holding the “team chat” and just putting the issue of the dueling cowl-necked, leather-trimmed coats on the table. It was a refreshing departure from the typically immature manner in which issues are handled on reality shows.
Although I still mourn the loss of Anthony, I am thankful for Jerell and Mondo for making me laugh this week. All hail the polka dots princess! I loved Mondo’s comment about the awkward family dinner. It was also interesting to learn that the designers actually have food in the work room. Who knew?!? Jerell was pretty spot on in his take on Kenley’s design. It was terribly inappropriate for anyone over the age of 7 and perfect for Minnie Mouse at any age.
I really don’t know what to say about the challenge. My heart broke for Mondo and I liked Rami’s design. I cannot believe that Rami has gone home. This really was a great challenge for Jerell. The judges seemed excessively snarky this week. I would be surprised if there were any more all star seasons but if there are, I hope that the show will try new judges and maybe revisit the judging process. And no more face offs!
