That’s right, actor Henry Winkler, who became synonymous with his role as The Fonz on the classic TV series ‘Happy Days’ is in line to play Ava’s (Maya Rudolph) father Robert on the new NBC comedy Up All Night.
According to a report at TV Guide, Winkler will play the “more grounded and warm, loving parent” to Ava, whose mother is classified as a “nutso”. Robert, as described by Emily Spivey, the series’ executive producer, may be “flighty and a little irresponsible, he’s a creative type who writes children’s books (and in roles Henry has played he) exudes a warmth and whimsy, which is why we thought of him”.
Ironically enough, Winkler, in real life, is the author of the successful Hank Zipzer series of children’s books and has recently appeared in a recurring role on the USA Network drama ‘Royal Pains’.
Expect Ava’s father to debut on ‘Up All Night’ in late April or early May, while Ava’s mother, who tends bar in Florida and lives with a musician, is expected to debut in Season 2
An all new episode of ‘Up All Night’s’ debut season will air on NBC tonight, February 2 at 9:30/8:30c.
