Project Runway All Stars “Good Taste Tastes Good” Review

I have no idea how Project Runway All Stars will follow up last week’s episode that featured the phenomenal Miss Piggy. This week, the contestants are asked to design outfits inspired by gelato. I don’t know what that means but it sounds delicious so I’m game. I enjoyed Michael’s glee at the revelation of Diane Von Furstenberg as this week’s judge. I’m not a huge fashionista but I do fancy a good DVF wrap dress so I too was excited about her inclusion on this week’s Project Runway panel. It is also revealed that this will be a ridiculously quick challenge as the contestants are only given 6 hours to design and create their gelato-inspired outfits. It is the shortest challenge in Project Runway history. You know that a frenzy is about to ensue when the producers create an in-house, mini-Mood instead of taking the cast to Mood for shopping.

I suspected that this challenge would favor Michael, who has the ability to create clothes very, very quickly. Mila manages to create a dress that is not black and white but is still inspired by the ’60s nonetheless. April thought blueberry would be a great idea and that she would use black jersey to create her blueberry dress. Right unfortunately for April, she also realizes that she does not have enough fabric to complete her dress.

Joanna Coles stops by to check on everyone’s progress. She came bearing the gift of more gelato, which is probably the last thing that the contestants wanted at that time. It is looking like Kara is having major proportion issues with her dress. Hopefully she will fix the fabric before the show. Leave it to April to officially learn that her dress does not have enough fabric for her mode. Selecting the runway winner this week will very likely turn on which designer has created the best of the lot of the worst.

The runway show begins and we see the final product of what appeared to be several train wrecks waiting to happen in the sewing room. Jerrell, Kenley and Mila manage to use the same dress every day without receiving any reprimand from the judges.

Mondo, Michael, Anthony, Kara, April, Mila are the judges three least favorite and most favorite designs. April goes home and Michael wins another challenge. He also got an order from DVF to give her a call after the show. Do it Michael!

Favorite quote of the night: “I’m gonna have my cantaloupe and eat it too!” – Mondo

Sound off below on Project Runway. Did the right contestant go home? Did the right person win the challenge?
