Castle “An Embarrassment of Bitches” Review

Castle An Embarrassment of Bitches Season 4 Episode 13

In this episode of Castle, called “An Embarrassment of Bitches”, the gang is on the trail of the dirty dog who killed a dog show judge backstage at a dog show. I guess you could say that Castle has really gone to the dogs in this one because the whole case ends up being one big dog’s breakfast and some characters (and some dogs) even end up fighting like cats and dogs.

Okay sorry, I swear I’ve got all the dog stuff out of my system now.

Anyway, the case does take its usual twists and turns. What starts out looking like a murder about the sometimes vicious world of dog shows, then ends up going in the direction of a secret dog breeding ring. After that, the team finds connections to a training facility for drug sniffing dogs and ultimately to their final target, a connection to a major drug cartel.

Through it all there was one very special guest star who won the hearts not only of Castle and Beckett, but me too. Royal the dog was there when his poor master was killed and it’s his “testimony” that ultimately leads them to the killer. It’s also his influence that brings Rick and Kate a little closer together as they spend some time sharing custody over the pooch. He also causes them to inadvertently hold hands for a little bit. But as always, the moment of romance is broken pretty quickly and the two end up right back where they were before. Still, it was a nice little moment while it lasted.

My favorite bits..

“We were going to take your Ferrari and hook up with some boys we met on Craig’s List.”

Lanie snapping at Espo again? Hm..what is that about?

“Hey, that’s not Jason Bateman.” – Hahahaha! And real life makes it on the show again. Nice.

The starlet’s little dog nearly biting Castle’s hand off.

Ryan getting a kick out of his own underdog joke.

“We could use a mascot.”
“I thought that’s what you were.”

“What’s that buddy? Esposito’s sense of humor fell down a well and can’t get out?”

Ryan losing at Roshambo. Twice.

The Three Stooges run that Beckett and Esposito did away from the dogs.

“Does the phrase ‘corporate espionage’ mean anything to you?”
“No. Seriously, I have no idea.”

Beckett giving Castle a look when he started guessing where Kay could be hiding a bug in that outfit.

Castle and Beckett giggling at Esposito’s puppy love over Kay.

Castle losing Roshambo. Three times.

“It’s called shared custody, not show up when you want custody.”

Castle rubbing Beckett’s hand. Oh boy.

Beckett giving in and letting Royal on the couch. Awwww!

Poor Esposito realizing that his crush might be their killer.

“Does she realize she just incriminated herself?”
“I said she was nice, didn’t say anything about smart.”

Castle setting Royal on Reggie.

Royal choosing Kay over Castle and Beckett.

“Don’t pretend that you’re smarter than me. I taught you subtext, young lady.”

It was a good episode but I hate it when procedurals cast known actors as the villain. The moment i saw Justin Hartley I knew he would be the bad guy. Although having him and Hilarie Burton made me wonder which celebrity guest star they would make the villain. Nice little WB reunion though.

hehehe I loved the Jason Bateman part! I laughed so much over it. But I have to agree with Chrisjozo, I knew Justin Hartley would be the villain from the beginning, kind of ruined the mystery part of the show a little bit.
