Psych “The Tao of Gus” Review

Psych (USA) The Tao of Gus

In this episode of Psych, Shawn and Gus are on the case of a woman who claims to have witnessed a murder and thinks she’s in danger. Only trouble is she seems a bit flighty so no one at the precinct wants to believe her story. That is until Gus lays on her, is immediately smitten and decides that anything the pretty lady says must be true. Shawn’s not as easily convinced, until she is nearly hit by a car; and Juliet is even less convinced, until someone starts shooting up her home.

Suddenly everyone believes the crazy/pretty lady and soon Shawn and Gus are taking her back home to keep her safe. Turns out “home” is a cult being run by a man name Eli (but you can call him Eli) and much to Shawn’s surprise, Gus takes to life in the commune pretty fast. After a few twists and turns and more than a few red herrings to chase, Shawn discovers that it was Eli himself behind the murders, as well as a plot to steal all of his followers’ money and run off to an island.

The title of this episode was ‘The Tao of Gus’ and though it was mostly making fun at his changed behavior in the commune, I thought it might also refer to one small moment between Shawn and Gus that I found very sweet. ‘Tao’ (according to Google) means way, path, or route and I wonder if Gus is deciding to change his life. Shawn calls him out for putting out a lot more vibes with women recently and Gus basically replies that maybe he wants to find someone special, too. With all the attention on Shawn and Juliet, I’ve sort of forgotten that Gus has been without love for a long time and I wonder if this means there’s romance on the horizon for him, too.

My favorite bits..

“What is this? Do your job half-assed day at the Santa Barbara Police Department?”

Juliet apologizing for her ‘creepy colleague.’

Cracking up at Lassie’s imitation of smoking weed.

“I don’t know, man. As much as I like to zig when Lassiter zags, I’m feeling pretty zaggy.”

I’m with Shawn on that one. That was indeed the creepiest euphemism of all time.

“I say we go north.”
“Can you be a little bit more specific?”
“Fine. South.”

Holy crap! I was so not expecting that. Way to make me jump, show.

Yay! Long version of the opening credits. *dances along*

Shawn completely freaking out when they got to the farm. Not that I blame him. Smiling people with weapons scare me, too.

Shawn telling Eli that he and Gus had tickets to a screening of Xanadu. Hilarious to me because I have actually seen that film a few couple on the big screen in the past few years. Strange, but true.

“We’re so far off the grid, I think we’re actually back ON the grid.” – Nice trick, that.

Lassiter ordering Juliet to tell her boyfriend goodbye so they could get some pancakes.

“If God meant them to be candy, then why did he invent candy?”

Halloween apples? Haha! Love it.

The jerks in the truck asking if they had seen any double rainbows.

Whoa! Nice move Shawn, with the swinging and the kicking……oh, well maybe not now. LOL.

“That old lady was feisty as Hell, and I’ve got the denture marks to prove it.”

Collective panties? Erm..no thanks.

Uh oh….looks like Gus has been drinking the kool-aid.

Cracking up at the little flower behind Gus’ ear.

“Doesn’t seem like a short cut to me.”
“That’s because it’s a short cut the heck out of here.”

The poor Blueberry having to get wet twice.

“Great directions Spencer, if it wasn’t for the fetid stench of unwashed hippie pits we might never have found this place at all.” – Haha! I heart Lassiter so hard.

Gourd, shoe..those things are easily confused.

Whoa. That’s so weird. I think I may have had that same dream once…what?

Wow, the truth barn really does work.

“Maybe when we get two gourds we can work that out.”

Lassiter actually taking the gourd so he could speak.

“Why are we still talking to these stinky flag burners?”

Milosh taking off after Eli with his shoe, and Dot tackling him to the ground.

Dot telling Juliet that she was one very lucky woman…while snuggling her boyfriend. Nope, that’s not creepy.

I really enjoyed this episode, even if I could not spot the pineapple…. LOL….

I so love Lassiter, and his “say what’s on your mind” attitude!

And, yeah, I hope Gus gets some loving soon!!
