As any fan of the long-running TNT drama The Closer knows, actor Billy Burke (of Twilight fame) played Philip Stroh, the one “who got away” from Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick).
According to the folks at TV Line, Burke will be back as Stroh for – SPOILER WARNING!!! – the final two episodes (set to air next summer) of the series in a faceoff with Brenda in which she is investigating the makeshift cemetery of a serial killer that will cause Stroh to resurface.
Back at the close of season four of this TNT drama, Stroh was “introduced when the suspect in a series of rapes backtracked on his confession”, pointing a finger as his own attorney instead. At the time and ever since, Brenda could never find enough evidence to actually pin the crimes on Stroh. Since then she has dedicated a room of her and Fritz’s home to tracking the unsolved case.
The next new episode of the limited fall/winter run of ‘The Closer’ will air on Monday, December 12 at 9/8c. The final six episodes of the show’s final season will air next summer.
