SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC “Cult Like” Review

SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC “Cult Like” Season 23 Episode 12 – Well, that’s that. No more Savaii members to vote out, and no more easy vote decisions. Therefore, Survivor started out “Cult Like” with Cochran coming to the very obvious realization that he is in very real danger coming into the next vote. He did the classic Survivor move of making the public appeal to the tribe, and I actually think it might have helped here. Usually I just feel like these little speeches just hurt whoever’s giving them, as it just comes off desperate and weak, but Cochran’s experience in law really helped in appealing to this jury of his peers.

Right after that, we get into one of the most emotional Duels I’ve ever seen on the show. Ozzy was able to continue his dominance and knock out Dawn and Whitney, but that’s not the story here. Dawn’s impassioned and emotional speech about following your dreams and doing whatever you set your mind to was a little cliche, but it was so from the heart that you can’t help but getting a little choked up. Dawn bothered me when we first started the game, but she’s really grown on me and I’m bummed to see her go. Oh, and Whitney is gone.

After a little hemming and hawing around camp, mostly involving Cochran and Edna not knowing where they stand in the tribe, we go to the immunity challenge. Despite partaking in a little session of Coach Chi to center themselves, both Coach and Cochran lose in the first round of the challenge and end up losing to Albert. But then, Coach and Cochran ended up being the ones receiving the reward thanks to Albert picking Coach to join him and then giving it away to Cochran. This was an odd choice by Albert, but it looks like the Coach Chi actually gave them a little bit of luck!

There was way too much going on at tribal to go through everything in detail, but there is one major thing that definitely stuck out to me. I don’t entirely understand Cochran thinking that the entire Upolu tribe is indebted to him for stabbing Savaii in the back. It isn’t like what he did was that brave or gutsy. He was protecting himself more than he was helping Upolu! It turns out his arrogance and self-righteous attitude ended up hurting him, as he was sent to Redemption Island to get rocked next week by Ozzy! There’s a possibility that Cochran pulls a huge upset next week, but I’m not holding my breath.

Random Thoughts:

- It’s not often that I notice the eyes of a woman, but did anybody else notice how pretty Sophie’s eyes are?

- It’s a good thing I don’t have a 3D TV, cause I’m pretty sure Cochran’s nose would have poked me in the eye during that massage scene.

- Is everybody watching the Ponderosa videos at CBS.com? I highly recommend you do so!
