RAISING HOPE “Bro-gurt” Season 2 Episode 8 – Ethan Suplee returned to Raising Hope this week as the lovelorn Andrew, and he wasn’t the only guest star in the hilarious “Bro-gurt”. Andrew Dice Clay had a funny little cameo, and the brilliant Patton Oswalt also showed up as…um…The Wizard of Oz? Let me explain.
“Bro-gurt” centered around the Invention Convention Extravaganza coming to town, and the entire cast started coming up with ideas to pitch to Andrew Dice Clay, the celebrity judge for the event. Not only were all of the ideas for the inventions hilarious, especially the titular Bro-gurt, but we also got a great chance to see some of the minor characters get a chance to shine. Barney’s guacamole face cream was funny, and Frank’s shoemarang cracked me up every time he threw it.
I loved seeing Jimmy and Sabrina get in a fight, as it actually served as a good learning experience for them on their journey to eventually being together. Sabrina actually thought it was pretty hot seeing Jimmy get all worked up, so that’s a good sign for fans of this couple!
All of the other little character moments all worked together so well. Burt and Andrew’s relationship was funny, and hearing them brainstorm about products made just for men was hilarious (Tampons for your butt!) Andrew, Burt and Virginia’s journeys all tied up into an out-of-the-blue Wizard of Oz motif where it’s discovered at the end that Patton Oswalt was actually Andrew Dice Clay and he was faking his appearance. This concluded with a funny little scene towards the end where he awarded Burt, Virginia and Andrew with a brain, heart and courage respectively. It was a nice little twist that came out of nowhere, and seeing the family decide not to watch The Wizard of Oz in the final scene was a cute little nod to the whole situation.
This was yet another great episode of a comedy that is really starting to pick up steam as it’s almost half way through its second season. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Random Thoughts:
- Again, I loved how funny Maw Maw can be in short doses. While I didn’t think her first couple invention ideas were that funny, I liked her little dig at FOX News.
- Remember when Ethan Suplee was morbidly obese? All I remember seeing him in was dramas when he was fat, and now that he’s skinny all he’s in is comedies. Weird…
