BODY OF PROOF “Gross Anatomy” Review

BODY OF PROOF “Gross Anatomy” Season 2 Episode 9 – Maybe it’s because I always secretly wanted to take a gross anatomy class, but I was actually interested in last night’s Body of Proof. Or maybe I just liked Dora, the medical student whose cadaver was replaced with a murder victim. Not only was she smart and adorable, she had a respect for the dead that would have made her a good candidate for Megan’s successor.

This week’s victim was an Irish rocker chick who ended up pregnant, got involved in an under-the-table adoption plan courtesy of her fellow limo driver who wanted to make a buck to cover his brother’s med school expenses, and ended up getting killed when she backed out after the birth. Something about those little human beings makes it very hard to hand them over, even when it’s better for them in the long run.

With Detective Bud’s wife expecting, are we going to see the rest of the season peppered with babies just so they can show what a great dad he’ll be? I hope not; babies are a cheap ploy to gain audience sympathy. Even if they are cute.

We got a little background on Kate; apparently she had the same gross anatomy professor as Dora, only the man got handsy with Kate once upon a time. I want to sympathize with her, but if it really was something she’s carried around for sixteen years, why didn’t she report it back in the day? The early 90′s weren’t exactly the dark ages of woman’s lib.

Peter embarked on a career-endangering flirtation and eventual affair with the hot body transport chick. She spun him a sad story about her born-again father and he waved goodbye to his common sense, in an elevator of all places. I’m all for strong, sexually confident women, but this girl clearly has daddy issues.

Besides sparring with the arrogant and nefarious gross anatomy instructor and reprimanding Dora for being curious about the lab into which she was invited, Megan’s only real story this week came from her attempts to drag her daughter away from the wonderful world of Skype. In high school, conference calls were the thing you did with your friends for the long hours you were separated; now you can debate Edward versus Jacob with your girlfriends face to face. Interesting to note that Lacey falls on the side of Edward, although what respectable pre-teen girl has to rent her Twilight? Download it or buy it, there is no rent.

Not a bad Body of Proof, but I have yet to experience a truly great episode. Not sure the show is entirely capable of that, but I hold out hope. What can I say? I’m an optimist.
