SUBURGATORY “Thanksgiving” Season 1 Episode 8 – I think “Thanksgiving” might be my favorite episode of Suburgatory so far, and that’s saying a lot because I’ve enjoyed every episode I’ve seen. But eight weeks in, the show is starting to gel into one of the better half hours of my week.
With all of her beloved New York Thanksgiving traditions off the table, Tessa has a case of the holiday blues, which probably won’t be cheered up by spending the day with Dallas at George’s urging. By getting a Brazilian (blowout, not wax), Tessa blackmails Dallas into driving her into the city, her native habitat. I would have loved to have seen more of Tessa showing Dallas her world, but the scenes was cut short when they spot George in the city, making out with a random woman.
Tessa is shocked and betrayed. Dallas is indignant, which is a good indication that her marriage is rocky as it seems, given her husband’s constant absence and weird dictatorship when he is around. I see a divorce in Dallas’s future, which would actually be just fine. Dalia could go off and live with her daddy, and Dallas could be Tessa’s crazy stepmother.
Things always work out like that in my head; I expect it won’t be that easy on the show.
Meanwhile, Lisa decides to rebel against her mother by refusing to wear a pilgrim dress for a family picture. With the unexpected support of her brother (at least as much as he’s capable of giving), Lisa stands up and declares her independence by wearing nothing but a smile to the dinner table. It’s a great, glorious moment for her character…but she takes it too far by running out of the house naked.
Hiding out from the police in George’s car, she winds up going along with him and Tessa when he drives his daughter into the city for black and white milkshakes.
We finally got meet Noah’s wife and daughter, and it’s wonder Noah isn’t divorced. She’s cold and snobby and has a major rivalry going with Dallas. Dalia continues with her party planning gig and Dallas names her new, hypoallergenic dog after Yakult, her favorite pro biotic drink. Love it. Never change, Suburgatory.
