90210 “Smoked Turkey” Review

90210 “Smoked Turkey” Season 4 Episode 10 – I love holiday episodes of TV soaps. There’s just so many unexpected relatives, break-ups and dinner disasters. In “Smoked Turkey,” this week’s Thanksgiving-themed episode of 90210, we got all three, plus a random brush fire that really should have been a bigger deal than it was. Trust me; I’ve seen entire mountain chains on fire in LA.

For those of you keeping track, Annie has not only officially become a prostitute by continuing to sleep with Patrick to finance Dixon’s rehab, but she very well might get caught as some of the girls in her escort ring have been arrested. I really hope Annie hasn’t been dumb enough to deposit those ten thousand dollar checks; nothing says hooker like large sums of cash in a student bank account.

Liam hosted Thanksgiving dinner at Naomi’s house, but his mom showed up pretending to want to play family, but really just wanting to get in on his new wealth. It was a nice piece of continuity, having her show up, but does everything in Liam’s life really need to be crappy? Can’t he ever have one good thing that totally works out for him? Or was he simply blessed with killer abs and a gorgeous face and nothing else?

Thanks to Naomi getting stuck on a riding trail after a fight with Austin, where she tried to light a joint to pass the time and wound up starting a fire that evacuated the folks below at her house, dinner was moved to Liam’s bar. Dixon took the opportunity to come clean about his rehab to his friends, while Silver decided to move on from Navid by dating a cute professor she originally intended for Annie.

But the big story of the night went to Ivy and Raj. Faced with the news that Raj was going to live, the young couple got into their first fight over how they were going to spend the rest of their lives. Ivy wanted to take photos in Guam; Raj wanted to go to med school. In the end, Ivy realized that she didn’t marry Raj because he was dying; she married him for love.

Unfortunately, her timing sucked as Raj had just learned from his doctor (who makes patient calls on Thanksgiving—yeah, right!) that his treatment wasn’t as successful as they had originally thought. Raj is still dying, only now he feels like he can’t drag Ivy through more treatments and hospitals, only to watch him waste away. Without telling her about his new prognosis, he tells her their marriage is over.

I feel for them both, but under the guise of being selfless, Raj is actually being a real jerk. He’s doing exactly what Ivy accused him of earlier, namely making all of the choices in their relationship by not letting her decide whether to be with him until the end or not.

All in all, a typical holiday episode of 90210. Happy Turkey day, folks!
