GOSSIP GIRL “All the Pretty Sources” Review

GOSSIP GIRL “All the Pretty Sources” Season 5 Episode 8 – We bid a not-so-fond farewell to Diana in “All the Pretty Sources,” this week’s Gossip Girl, and it says a lot for the quality of the episode that it wasn’t even the highlight of the hour.

Eight episodes into what has been a mediocre season at best, thanks in no small part to the least-desirable prince in Europe (Seriously! How did they manage to make a fairytale prince so unsexy?!?), Blair’s royal romance is finally starting to unravel. But will this lead her back to Chuck, as 99.9% of the fan base would like?

Because now it seems that Dan is also in love with Ms. Waldorf, only instead of molding himself into the kind of man who deserves her (a la Chuck Bass), he has decided to take the opposite route and turn himself into a drunken fool. Hmm…in three-way choice between a prince (unsexy or not), Chuck Bass or a blathering, washed-up novelist who tried to ride to fame by exposing his only friends to public ridicule, I think we all know who Blair will NOT be choosing.

Surprisingly enough, Louis brought about his own downfall by sending a document full of Gossip Girl’s sources to the Spectator. Serena and Nate had already decided not to share this information with Diana, knowing that it would implicate everyone in NYC (except for Nate himself, who proved tonight that he might just be the only truly good character on the show), but Louis took it upon himself to show Blair that her friends are backstabbing bitches by being a backstabbing bitch himself. Great plan!

Regardless of how it happened, not even striking a major blow against Gossip Girl could keep Diana from losing her job; as it turns out, Nate’s grandfather hired her to groom Nate to take over the Spectator. Lame. I was hoping for something more malicious. At any rate, Diana is out, and Nate just got a major promotion.

He should hire Charlie back. She needs the money now that she’s being blackmailed by her California boyfriend, who, even after a spectacular set of lies that saved Charlie’s butt in front of Mama van der Woodsen, has figured out that Charlie isn’t playing Ivy…Ivy is playing Charlie. Oops. I have to admit; I’m not as tired of this plot as I figured I would be after eight episodes, but it might be time to wrap it up before we actually start caring about Charlie. I mean, the girl has some sort of throat condition that clearly needs medical attention; she always sounds like she just recovered from losing her voice.

The whole night of the wedding shower/Gossip Girl reveal came to a head when Blair, angry and hurt and betrayed by her prince, found herself at Chuck’s apartment. After watching him tuck a drunk Dan into bed, it finally dawned on her that he might just be a changed man. I couldn’t tell if she was shocked or relieved by this realization, but progress between them has finally, finally been made.

What did you think of this week’s episode? Was it brilliant or mean of Serena to mislead Blair about her party? Is Charlie crazy enough to try to get rid of her blackmailer? Let me know below!
