THE LEAGUE “Thanksgiving” Season 3 Episode 8- I would start my recap, but that guinea pig won’t stop staring at me…
Alright, that’s better. This week’s episode of The League took on the Thanksgiving theme. And what Thanksgiving episode would be complete without some recognizable guest stars. We were introduced to Ruxin’s father, who was played nicely enough by Jeff Goldblum. Goldblum seemed natural playing Ruxin’s equally douchetastic father. It may not have been that big of a stretch. Their scenes together were enjoyable because of the odd circumstances that threw them together in the first place. Sadly, I can’t say I was really interested in seeing Jeff Goldblum’s vinegar strokes. I suppose it could have been worse. I could have eaten guinea pig with my Thanksgiving turkey.
The other guest star this week, Sarah Silverman, left me presently surprised by her performance. I have seen too much of Sarah Silverman doing weird Sarah Silverman things. I have never been a huge fan of hers, but she put on a very competent acting performance. It made me wonder what she is doing on TV instead of jumping into the latest female raunch comedy.
This week’s running story line for the boys was the fat bet made in an attempt to slim down for Thanksgiving. I really wished they had found more time to spend on the fat bet. That storyline feels like it could be its own episode instead of thrown in among guest stars and holiday meals. There was a lot of rich comedy ground to explore, but the manic style of The League does not allow that to happen.
Overall, I will remember this week as one of The League’s better efforts of the season. This show seems to have found its groove here in the middle of the season. The writing seems more focused, and they have downplayed Taco recently. I know this has turned into a dissenting opinion, but less of Taco is more. And if anyone can explain that sweater he was wearing at Thanksgiving, I’m all ears.
It’s your turn. What did you think of this week’s episode of The League? Where does this season stack up with the previous two? Sound off in the comments section below or on Twitter.
