The complete fifth season of ROBOT CHICKEN is now available on DVD. In an atypical move, Adult Swim is bringing the brilliant creation from the minds of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich to DVD mid-season. That’s right. You can own the complete fifth season of Robot Chicken before it is even fully aired! How is that for an incentive to pick this DVD up?
The two disc set contains all 20 episodes of Season Five of Robot Chicken including nine not yet seen on TV epsiodes. With episodes called “Saving Private Gigli”, “Schindler’s Bucket List”, “No Country for Old Dogs”, “Fight Club Paradise”, and “The Departy Monster”, Robot Chicken is back stronger and darker than ever. The 20 episodes span a wide variety of TV shows, movies and general pop culture with the twisted spin that only Robot Chicken could provide. Did you ever wonder how Skeletor could afford his castle? Does Stomp make you want to blow your brains out? Do you wonder what would happen if Master on I Dream of Jeannie lost his mind? Ever wonder how they get the corks in wine bottles? How cole slaw is made? What Batman and Robin really think of that Christmas jingle? Robot Chicken answers those questions (kind of) and more! This season also brought special guest stars such as Skeet Ulrich, Jon Hamm, Diablo Cody, and Brian Austin Green as himself, just to name a few.
The DVD set also has an amazing number of special features. There are 52 deleted animations, 7 fully animated deleted scenes, 7 behind-the-scenes featurettes, a DVD exclusive uncensored “Blue Rabbits” MP3 download, and commentary on all 20 episodes. Personally, I am kind of in love with the Blue Rabbits song so the download was a hit with me. Also available are “chicken nuggets” in four select episodes (“Saving Private Gigli,” “Big Trouble in Little Clerks 2,” Robot Chicken’s DP Christmas Special,” and “Fight Club Paradise”) that allow the viewer to access sketch by sketch commentary on those episodes.
My favorite bonus features, aside from the music download, were “The Jon Hamm Story”, a two minute story about how they were able to get Jon Hamm to guest star, “A Day in the Life of Robot Chicken” and “Behind the Scenes: Episode 100″ both of whom show how the episodes are made which is always fascinating to me in stop animation.
My verdict is to go out and buy the Robot Chicken Season 5 DVD. Why? You will get to see unaired episodes without having to wait. It also has the most extensive and entertaining bonus features that I have seen on a DVD set. So, what are you waiting for?
