HOUSE “Risky Business” Review

HOUSE “Risky Business” Season 8 Episode 4 – House returned this week from its long baseball-induced hiatus, and I thought that since the episode airing on Halloween meant we would be focusing on the holiday a little bit more. So when guest star Michael Noori walked out of his mansion to find that his front yard had been TP’d, I thought it was because some neighborhood kids got into some Halloween hijinks, but instead it was because some patriotic individuals were vandalizing his house to protest him moving his company to China. After he starts seeing everything through a fish eye lens (Everything looks cooler through a fish eye lens!), he is admitted to Princeton-Plainsboro, and off we go!

For one more episode, we’re back to the two girl team of Adams and Park helping out House with his diagnosis. I, for one, am actually a fan of this team configuration. I’m starting to like Adams a lot more, as House is busy accusing her of sleeping with somebody or interviewing for another job since she showed up late to work. I’m also growing to like Park more and more, as she gets some interesting progressions on her sexual harassment story this week. I’m really a fan of Charylne Yi’s acting style. She’s incredibly subdued, subtle, and quiet. It’s a great foil to the over-the-top performance that Hugh Laurie gives as House. Just looking at the little eyebrow raises and glances she makes are really great for a character on this show. I’m not saying she’s an acting genius or anything, but I really think she’s a refreshing change of pace from all the pretty faces we’ve had on the diagnosis team over the years. Watching her run into House’s office triumphantly kissing her biceps after passing her hearing was great.

As far as the rest of the episode went, the team miraculously found the cure for the patient in the eleventh hour. The only reason this was more important than your usual episode of House is because House was able to use the healing of this sick CEO in order to play the stock prices and raise enough money to buy back his old team (Plus Adams, officially). We’ll see how the foursome work together next week, but this was a great episode to say goodbye to the Park/Adams duo! I still want my Park & Adams spinoff, FOX! Make it happen!

Random Thoughts:

- I like how the doctors on this show always tell the patients not to move during their MRIs, but then they always proceed to discuss whatever deep topics the show is tackling that week. I got yelled at during my MRI for even thinking about moving a muscle, so if I started talking to me about the state of the US job market and the ethical implications of moving your operations to China, they probably would have ran in there and slapped me in the face.

- Has there been any other show in history where the actors talk while walking down hallways more than on House? If somebody out there kept track of how many left and right turns they were taking, they’d probably reveal that they’ve just been walking around in circles over and over again.

- Fair warning: I’m going to be geeking out like crazy next week when Battlestar Galactica‘s Jamie Bamber is the guest star. So say we all!
