HOMELAND Season 2 Announced

In renewal news, Showtime has officially given its new series HOMELAND a second season consisting of 12 new episodes.

The renewal doesn’t really come as a surprise given how successful Homeland has proven itself to be. The series debuted as Showtime’s highest-rated freshman drama series ever, generating 4.4 million viewers across platforms in its first week. It also has continued to increase overall viewership since its premiere, with its most recent episode delivering the series’ best ratings to-date this past Sunday. Season two will begin production in spring 2012.

In case you didn’t know, Homeland is a one-hour drama series that tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed dead for eight years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. The series also stars Morena Baccarin, David Harewood, Diego Klattenhoff, Morgan Saylor and Jackson Pace. HOMELAND is based on the original Israeli series “Prisoners of War,” by Gideon Raff. Along with Gordon and Gansa, the executive producers for season one are Avi Nir, Ran Telem, Gideon Raff and Michael Cuesta.

Thoughts? Are you watching Homeland? And if you are, will you be tuning in for season 2?

This is very good news. My favorite new shows this fall are Revenge, Homeland, Boss and American Horror Story. It looks like all four are doing well and will see another season. The rest of the new fall shows that I’m watching are completely expendable and will be easily forgotten when the more interesting mid-season fare arrives.

Yes, it is very good news, I’m happy there will be more to come. I also like all the shows you mentioned, although I have to say with American Horror Story I’m still struggling to start watching the second episode because I’m not at all a horror fan, yet I’m curious to find out what happens next. I’m guessing I should give it another shot?

I think you should give the first 3 episodes a try before making a decision. I don’t find the show scary. It’s just Loony Tunes. Completely crazy. I find myself laughing at how nutty the writing is and I am absolutely mesmerized by Jessica Lange.

Also, a few comments regarding your earlier post reviewing the season premiere of The Walking Dead. To answer your question, yes I had the comics in mind while watching the first season. I like the show for what it is and look forward to each episode, but I can’t say they’re improving on the original. Daryl Dixon has been the only embellishment that I’ve enjoyed. The Vatos and the CDC made me groan. The writing can be a bit uneven and some of the dialogue demands that I fast forward past it, but I’m overall very happy the show is on the air and is as successful as it is. I enjoy it because I keep my expectations low and I’ve wanted little from the show besides Andrea becoming the character I love in the print version, a good prison arc and for The Governor to be formidable and dispicable. They really need to make that whole chunk of the story work. For me, anything beyond that is gravy. ;)
