CHARLIE’S ANGELS “Angels in Chains” Review

CHARLIE’S ANGELS “Angels in Chains” Season 1 Episode 4 – The girls head to Cuba this week (which apparently is easier than I thought it was) in the fourth episode of Charlie’s Angels, “Angels in Chains.” As the title implies, while attempting to find a missing American tourist, the Angels are illegally arrested and thrown in a Cuban prison.

I didn’t realize this until I did some internet digging, but apparently this story was an homage (or a blatant rip-off depending on your point of view) of a very well-known episode of the original Charlie’s Angels, best known for putting the girls behind bars and in skimpy towels. So, what…now we’re recycling plots? Sorry, but that only flies on Law and Order: UK.

It doesn’t matter how much Cuban flavoring you add to the mix; the whole set-up of the girls in jail being turned into unwilling prostitutes fairly screamed of the exploitation films that were so popular in the 70′s. But unfortunately, the new Angels are nowhere near as titillating as their predecessors.

The only high moments were the scenes between Bosley and a former flame who happens to be the CIA agent who failed to catch him back when he was a master computer hacker. They had a fairly decent chemistry, which is more than I can say for the other characters, and I wonder if we’ll see more CIA lady in the future.

Not that I’m anticipating too much of a future for this show. The buzzards are circling. We might never find out what happened to Elizabeth, Charlie’s daughter and Bosley’s love. Didn’t see that one coming, but I wish I could bring myself to care about such a plot twist.

Charlie’s Angels had its time and it made for legendary television. But I think it’s quite clear that in 2011, we have enough girls in popular culture who kick ass. Buffy, Sidney, Nikita, River (Song or Tam). We don’t need the Angels like they did in 1976.

What did you think of the episode? Viva la revolucion? Is anyone but me still watching this show? Let me know below!!

Actually, I’m surprised the new “Charlies Angels” hasn’t been cancelled already. Low ratings, bad reviews, no buzz, & zero charisma from the cast.. I believe ABC is just waiting for the right time to quietly announce the cancellation, as this is a high profile failure and an embarrassment for the network.

i love this show!!!! i think a lot of people don’t like the new charlies angels, because they are comparing it to the old one. Give it a chance! i hate the fact that its already has been canceled, because like i said people compare it to the old one and imidiatly don’t like it! I want them to keep making the episodes!
