AGAINST THE WALL “Boys Are Back” Season 1 Episode 10 – It seems like everyone did a bad, bad thing in “Boys Are Back,” this week’s episode of Against the Wall. Except for the poor little girl who got injured during a cop brawl. And maybe Lina, who needs to have that baby before she explodes.
When a fight breaks out at a wedding between two cops (after the best man finds the bride having sex in a bathroom stall when she’s supposed to be walking down the aisle), Abby and Lina try to put all of the pieces together to figure out who’s responsible for the injured flower girl, but too many of the officers involved are lying to either cover their asses or protect their partners.
Eventually, a second, more sinister crime is uncovered, as the same jerk who seduced the bride got drunk and raped an even drunker cop after the wedding. He was then tossed over a balcony (a short one) by her partner. Quite a mess, but only the rapist is arrested. Everyone else pools their suspension pay to help the little girl’s mother cover her hospital bills. See? Cops care.
Although, sometimes they care a little too much. Construction on Mama Kowalski’s bakery has begun and everyone has come out to lend a hand, including Mackie (Abby’s BFF whose name we might not have known up until now) and her new boyfriend, a real winner who Don quickly recognizes as a convicted felon.
Against Abby’s advice, Don has Steven pull Mackie and her prince over for an expired tag and while he did have cause to be concerned (the boyfriend has a gun), a routine search by Steven’s over-zealous partner reveals a joint in Mackie’s purse. This is what happens when you meddle, Don. I do like how Mackie handled it, though. She didn’t fly off at Don when he admitted what he’d done, although she was upset. And later, she blamed only herself for having the joint and appreciated Don looking out for her. Maturity. It’s so rare on TV that it blindsides me from time to time.
As for Abby…she very nearly turns Danny into another sex buddy, but our gorgeous lawyer is smart enough to put a stop to things just in time. He can tell that Abby isn’t ready for a relationship, but he doesn’t want to be her Brody 2.0. He’ll wait and hope for better things.
But why is Abby so fiercely opposed to a relationship? Yet again, Against the Wall‘s writers drop hints that something might have happened to turn her against the idea of commitment, but I hope that those are just random comments. I would like to see a woman on television who isn’t secretly pining for true love, but wants to focus on her career and her goals and herself past the age of 30. It’s not such a crazy notion, y’all!
What did you think of this week’s episode? Should Don have minded his own beeswax? Were you glad to see brother Steven finally getting some lines? Let me know below?
