RINGER “If You Ever Want a French Lesson” Review

If You Ever Want a French Lesson

RINGER “If You Ever Want a French Lesson” Season 1 Episode 3 – I have to say that I’m slowly losing steam with RINGER. I know it’s only the third episode, and because I love Sarah Michelle Gellar I will stick with it until the end, but not a lot happened in this third episode. Basically it’s the same thing, Bridget attempting to figure out who she killed in episode one that was looking for Siobhan and coming up empty.

This week she had the would be killer’s cell phone to work with, and because of Malcom’s suggestion takes the phone to an electronics store to see if they can trace any information from it. Since it’s a disposable phone the store can’t pull anything from the phone, and Bridget just keeps walking around with it in her purse. Right next to the stolen gun. I’m not sure that’s a good plan, Bridget.

Bridget however does catch a break – the phone rings and it’s a mysterious voice telling her to leave the phone in a park and he won’t tell the cops that she murdered their “mutual friend”. It looks like she might listen, but at the last minute decides to keep the phone with her, but proceeds to not do ANYTHING with it. Detective Machado is still attempting to find Bridget but is having no luck obtaining a search warrant for Siobhan’s phone records. HE catches a break (if you can call it that) when Bridget contacts him and they meet in a HIGHLY public place – all part of Bridget’s plan.

The mysterious phone caller sees Bridget talking to the FBI and now she has something to hold over his head – either he leaves her alone or she’ll hand the phone over to Detective Machado. Bridget and Machado’s conversation is interesting as well. He knows a lot more information about Siobhan than Bridget thought including that she’s sleeping with Gemma’s husband.

Speaking of Henry, turns out he’s not that happy and decides to pull his investment from Andrew’s firm. He gives some lame excuse about wanting to self publish his novel, however we all know it’s because Henry is bitter that he’s no longer sleeping with Siobhan and decides to take it out on Andrew. Andrew, by the way, is the most perfect man ever. He not only decides to take Siobhan to the ballet (which he hates) but also sets up a private fitting for Siobhan with a new designer for a new dress.

The most exciting part of the episode is when we find out that Siobhan had talked to a divorce lawyer and stupidly goes back for information as to why. Granted, Bridget is thinking that Andrew is behind the hit man (she found the same picture the hit man was holding on Andrew’s desk) but why go BACK to the attorney? Call him for information. Of course Andrew finds out and demands to know why she saw a divorce lawyer. Bridget doesn’t see him until later that night when she explains that she wants to start trusting him, that the attorney was for her to check out her options when they were having problems.

It helped that the picture she found on Andrew’s desk and on the hit man were actually sent out as her Holiday cards… so now ANYONE that received it could be the person trying to kill her. Back in France, Siobhan finds out that she’s pregnant and calls Henry… but doesn’t say a word. Meanwhile, while all of this is going on, Malcolm is being tortured by Bodaway Macawi to find out where Bridget is. Apparently Macawi doesn’t like loose ends. This is where Malcom becomes a REALLY sympathetic character. He’s been drug free for YEARS and since he won’t talk to Macawi about Bridget’s whereabouts, Macawi shoots him up with what looked like enough heroin (maybe? I’m not up on my street drugs) to kill an elephant.

So… while it seems like a lot happened, it wasn’t enough to fill a 45 minute episode. I feel that Ringer is slowly losing momentum, and I hope it’s able to pick it up again! Bridget just needs to be a little smarter in attempting to find out about Siobhan’s life and how to BE her twin sister; and we need a little more information about why everyone wants these twins dead!
