CASTLE “Heroes and Villains” Season 4 Episode 2 – Going into the second week of the new fall season, I’ve noticed that a lot of shows are taking quite a turn from their premieres. Whereas last week’s season opener of Castle was dark and somewhat sad, this episode was the complete and total opposite – a return to its roots with lots of one-liners and a bunch of people in wacky costumes running around.
The team has to catch a murderer who dresses up like a super hero, which of course makes Castle as giddy as a school girl. As usual, Beckett is more than a bit skeptical about the whole thing and doesn’t think that using super hero lore will be helpful to them at all. In the end it does turn out that his clues led them to the wrong masked avenger, but by working together they do manage to find the right one.
The only hint at the seriousness of last week’s episode came when Beckett had to talk to one of their suspects – a woman who dresses up in a costume to fight crime, all in the name of vengeance for her father’s murder. Beckett argues that she’s nothing like Hastings and while I agree, I wonder if a part of her would like to be. After all, Hastings gets to be with the man she loves – a man who writes about her adventures saving people from criminals.
My favorite bits..
“I seem to recall asking you to make me an ET costume and you telling me you didn’t know how to sew.” “Details.”
Beckett advising Castle to let Alexis go. I love that he has someone to clue him in on the ways of teenage girls.
Castle’s “OH!” when he saw the body.
“Please. The man was sliced in two. I’d say his unit was the least of his worries.”
“Then you do not understand the sacred bond between a man and his unit.”
“The killer probably followed him from the bar.”
“With a sword?”
“Touche.”
All of Castle’s jokes about cutting a man in two.
Castle’s child-like joy when he said “Our killer is a SUPER HERO!”
Wait. There are real-life super heroes out there? Why is there never one around when I need one?
Castle claiming his Spidey senses were tingling.
“You’re welcome to peruse my issues anytime.” – Hilarious how Castle can make even comic books sound sexy.
Beckett naming Castle as Annoying Man.
Esposito pointing out to Ryan that they are basically super heroes already, seeing as how they catch bad guys. Good point.
“Well to be fair, he was a lot more imposing in a dark alley, with a sword.”
A guy in a super hero costume talking about how comic book characters weren’t real. Ha!
Castle having to define the word “lone” to the kid.
I’m with Beckett, Gates promising anyone that they already had the killer was silly.
Being very disappointed in Alexis when I found out she was picking her classes based on wanting to spend more time with Ashley. C’mon girl! You’re smarter than that.
Kinda wondering why it never occurred to any of them to question the writer of the comic books. That was the first thing I thought of.
“He wore a suit.”
“As in a mask and cape?”
“Jacket and tie.”
Ryan going into voiceover mode when he told his version of the story.
“I think she’s warming up to you.” – Hahaha! Yeah, sure.
Beckett telling Paul that the other inmates weren’t going to be very nice when they found out he ran around in tights.
Castle complaining that Lone Vengeance’s lair was disappointing.
Whoa! I so did not see that coming. A woman? A cop?
Wondering just how many Lone Vengeance’s there were out there.
“Don’t be so driven by the past that you throw away your future.” – Hm, perhaps Beckett should say that line to herself.
Beckett and Castle watching the writer and his muse kiss in the elevator. Yep, just like…okay almost just like them.
Alexis telling Castle that she was picking her own classes, but then dropping the bomb that she was planning on moving in with Ashley. I think I heard Castle’s heart implode a little bit.
What did you think of this episode of Castle? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
