THE PLAYBOY CLUB “The Scarlet Bunny Season 1 Episode 2 – Remember last week on THE PLAYBOY CLUB when Maureen killed the mob boss and the rest of the 42 minutes was spent covering up the murder and trying to convince Carol-Lynne that she didn’t sleep with Nick?
Well this week, Carol-Lynne begins her “Bunny Training” which all the girls have to go through, she finds Maureen’s bloody Bunny costume, and she and Nick patch things up and get back together.
Meanwhile Nick decides to run for District Attorney and finds support from his old friends in the Mob, but not before he promises to help them find out what happened to Bianchi. Sean (husband of Bunny Alice) sees an opportunity and approaches Dalton to offer his services as a campaign director for Dalton’s District Attorney run.
The Bunnies also get some exciting news – there’s a contest that Heff is running; the girls can submit their photos for a chance to be on the cover of Playboy magazine. Maureen and Brenda are two of the finalists in the contest but Janie ends up winning. However, she has a bone to pick with her boyfriend who submitted the photos without her knowing – turns out Janie is on the run from her husband. He doesn’t know where she is, and she backs out of the cover shoot because she can’t risk him finding her.
With her giving up her spot, Heff chooses Maureen. Truthfully I would have too based on the pictures she submitted to him in her new red Bunny costume.
There wasn’t a lot of furthering of the plot arch in “The Scarlet Bunny” other than Carol-Lynne is EXTREMELY nervous of Maureen. She caught Maureen and Nick talking in the dressing room and while she played it cool when Nick was around, she basically told Maureen to watch her back – bad things happen to girls in Chicago. She also bestows the name “The Scarlet Bunny” onto Maureen because of how SMOKIN’ HOT she looked in her red Bunny costume. OH, and because Carol-Lynne feels that Maureen is moving in on her man.
There were a few issues that I had with The Playboy Club this week. One: Maureen finds that two guys had found Bianchi’s key, and almost freaks out when she sees his name plate at the Playboy Club entrance. She approaches the men and tells them to leave quietly, which they do… but she also doesn’t seem to be overly rattled that the mob bosses’ son is keeping a pretty close eye on her.
Maureen also manages to come up with a pretty fast lie when Carol-Lynne finds the blood on her Bunny costume – she blames the blood on a homeless guy in the alley that gave her a bloody nose. Sure, Maureen, the entire front of your costume is stained from a bloody nose.
However, there were GOOD things about The Playboy Club as well. Sean and Alice’s relationship was explored a bit more this week. Sean’s (played by the WONDERFUL Sean Maher) parents come for a visit, and it’s up to Sean and Alice to play a game of house. She has to act like the perfect housewife, and they both have to pretend to be happily married, and dodge questions about grandchildren.
One of my favorite scenes was when Maureen asked Alice to take pictures of her for the cover contest. Alice (Leah Renee Cudmore) was adorable, and played the part PERFECTLY. Flirty, but not over the top.
I know that women say The Playboy Club leaves a bad taste in their mouth for various different reasons, but it’s like Carol-Lynne said: These are strong women, who can do anything that they want and know who they are.
Overall, The Playboy Club is fun, has drama, humor, and even a little suspense… and it’s enough to keep me coming back next week.
