COMMUNITY Season 2 Recap – Everything You Need To Know

We remember much from Community‘s second season – the wacky paintball finale, the ingenious stop-motion Christmas episode, the Dean’s obsessive costumes…but do you remember everything you need to know in order to be fully ready for the premiere of season three?

Whether your answer is yes or no, we’ve taken the opportunity to give you a small refresher. True, it may not be as creative as a classic Jeff Winger speech (not everyone can be as witty as Joel McHale), but we hope it will provide some helpful background as we sail into season 3.

Greendale is no stranger to amusing situations. Among the more interesting ones that were seen this past school year:

  • Troy turned 21, and his fellow study group members brought him to a bar to celebrate – which resulted in a less-than-stellar party night, with much silliness from Britta and Jeff, incriminating moments for Shirley, and introspective moments from Abed and Annie.
  • Annie’s favorite pen disappeared after a study session, causing the entire room to turn on each other and learn some important lessons about trust and support (the culprit of the pen stealing was actually the devious monkey, Annie’s Boobs, living in the vents of the study room.)
  • Jeff was visited by an old lawyer colleague, who tried to lure him back into his “adult” ways, although unknowingly to Jeff he was the one who had gotten him disbarred in the first place.
  • Pierce joined up with a group of “hipsters” – older gentleman at Greendale – and subsequently lost control of himself, spiraling into bad habits and pain pill addiction.
  • Shirley and Chang hooked up during the Halloween “zombie fest”, which Shirley had no recollection of until Troy told her that Chang had left a message on his phone about the night’s events.
  • As we progressed further into season 2, we began to see more of a villainous change in Pierce. Sometimes his antics were funny. Sometimes his antics were downright rude. Still, who would’ve thought that Pierce would go so far as to get himself kicked out of the study group, mostly based on everyone’s fed-up annoyance? It all came to head after the final paintball battle, where it was revealed that Pierce had been getting on everyone’s nerves for a variety of hurtful things that had been done to his friends. When Pierce lashed out and told everyone how it made him feel, they tried to make nice offering him a spot back in the group. Pierce declined – and walked away.

While we obviously don’t have to worry about Chevy Chase leaving the show; it should be interesting to see how this ousting will be addressed, and how it will affect the relationships of the characters throughout the season.

And let’s not forget the romance factor! It seems like everyone in the study room tangled in romantic relationships at some point during the season – but would we ever guess precious Annie would be the one with the most activity? After lusting after Troy and then kissing Jeff in the season 1 finale, she followed it up with kiss with Han Solo Abed in the season 2 finale. What will happen in the third season? Based on early spoilers, it seems likely that Annie will soon find herself in a situation where she’s going to have to make some rather interesting relationship choices.

As for the rest of the Greendale crew – while Britta and Jeff’s relationship remains unstable (but functional), it didn’t stop Britta from sharing a kiss with Troy after their dance show. And Shirley reconciled with her ex-husband, Andre, giving birth to a new baby (thought to be conceived by Chang, although thankfully that turned out to be untrue.)
