The much anticipated fairytale drama ONCE UPON A TIME is not only the creation of Lost producers-writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis but it now also boasts a Lost alum. Actor Alan Dale, who played duplicitous Charles Widmore on the long-running ABC series, will appear in the new fall drama as the father of Prince Charming (Josh Dallas).
According to TV Line, “it’s a really pivotal role, and a pivotal part of the Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming story that we don’t think has been told yet” (per Horowitz).
And, while Dale is only booked for one episode, the producers are leaving the door open for him to return. Also, he is the first Lost alum to be cast in the show, but he could potentially not be the last. In addition, Horowitz and Kitsis have included Lost references – or what are best known as “easter eggs” – throughout the pilot episode, including a clock stuck at 8:15 and a Geronimo Jackson bumper sticker among other special nods to the show that made such an impact on the worldwide audience as well as the men behind the series.
Savvy TV viewers will also remember Dale for his roles on the first season of NCIS, the latter part of Ugly Betty as well as on The O.C., 24 and Entourage.
Once Upon a Time will debut on ABC on October 23 at 8/7c.
