5 Signs You’re Watching a Great Episode of NCIS

ncis episode

As much as I love NCIS, not every episode of the series hits me as much as others. Sometimes I may like an episode but not LOVE it, ya know? So I started thinking about it. What was it about some episodes that made me instantly fall in love with them and want to add them to my all-time favorite’s list?

The funny thing I realized was that it was an interesting combination. It wasn’t always just based on one character. Nor was it only serious moments, or funny ones for that matter. It was a lot of different things, but the one thing they all have in common is that all have appeared in my favorite episodes, sometimes more than one appearing in any one single episode.

Abby hugs someone

Abby hugs come in all shapes and sizes and for all different kinds of reasons. She’s a habitual hugger who will hug at the drop of a hat, whether it’s to give someone comfort or to get a little herself. Sometimes her hugs are nearly injurious in their enthusiasm (usually to Tony), but they are always from the heart and seeing one in an episode makes me happy.

Someone gets headslapped by Gibbs

Okay so to be truthful, the “someone” getting headslapped by Gibbs is usually Tony. But occasionally Gibbs does dole them out to others, so I thought I’d be fair. McGee has had a bunch and even Ziva has gotten a few, heck Gibbs even gave one to himself once. One of my favorites is the double headslap he gave to Tony and McGee at the same time, but no matter who gets it, I know I always like seeing a good “Gibbslap” every once in a while.

McGee saves the day using his super-geek powers

NCIS Abby McGee 1

McGee is the head geek on the team and we love him for it. Watching his fingers fly over his keyboard while he spouts gibberish I’ll never comprehend, especially when he’s just seconds away from nabbing a bad guy, adds to the excitement of the chase for me.

Ziva butchers an English idiom

NCIS

Half the fun with Ziva is in never quite knowing what she’s going to say next. Whether she’s trying to voice her frustration and only succeeds in confounding everyone more, or trying to understand what her team mates are talking about, her command of the English language (or lack thereof) is fodder for many of the giggles I’ve had while watching the show.

There’s a great team family moment

When I got into NCIS, one of the first things I noticed and like about it was how the team acted as a family. Here is this group of people who spend so much time together that almost none of them have managed to have any sort of home life. So they make one with each other and any time we are treated to a moment where we get to see that, I love it.

So what about you guys? What it is about certain episodes of NCIS that turn them from being simply good, to being great to you?

    Your list made me smile….

Regarding the head slaps – I love them too, but it was interesting – I read an interview with Mark Harmon where he said he felt he was doing them too much lately and told the writers to tone it down.  Hope not too much….

You know, I heard that somewhere too and I have to agree. As much as I like all this stuff, I wouldn’t want it to happen *all* the time. That includes the headslaps. The fact that they don’t happen very often makes them that much more special when they do.

The list is quite accurate! I also love when I go “Aww poor Tony!” The movie references from Tony are hilarious and when Ducky goes off on his ramblings I always have to laugh. Love it!

LOL! Love your additions! All are bits I love too. I probably couldn’t made a list of about 20 things if I’d wanted to…..  ;o)

For me a ‘great’ episode contains a Gibbs’ Slap, a Ziva-ism, one or more McNicknames, a scene in Gibbs’ basement and one of those incredibly subtle reactions by Mark when someone asks “Do you have children, Agent Gibbs?” (Breaks my heart every time, even the reruns.)

Oh man, you’re so not kidding about those parts when people ask Gibbs if he has kids. Breaks my heart too, every time. :o (

      Great list! :o )

You should do one of: Scenes We Would Like to See. One of mine would be seeing Tim going to Gibbs’ basement for advice. I think every cast member has been down there for some type of advice, except Tim… Anyway, onto this article. I loved it and agree with all 5 things :D

Oooh….interesting idea! I think I’m going to note that down and maybe try this idea of yours.

Glad you liked the article!  :o)
