As much as I love NCIS, not every episode of the series hits me as much as others. Sometimes I may like an episode but not LOVE it, ya know? So I started thinking about it. What was it about some episodes that made me instantly fall in love with them and want to add them to my all-time favorite’s list?
The funny thing I realized was that it was an interesting combination. It wasn’t always just based on one character. Nor was it only serious moments, or funny ones for that matter. It was a lot of different things, but the one thing they all have in common is that all have appeared in my favorite episodes, sometimes more than one appearing in any one single episode.

Abby hugs come in all shapes and sizes and for all different kinds of reasons. She’s a habitual hugger who will hug at the drop of a hat, whether it’s to give someone comfort or to get a little herself. Sometimes her hugs are nearly injurious in their enthusiasm (usually to Tony), but they are always from the heart and seeing one in an episode makes me happy.

Okay so to be truthful, the “someone” getting headslapped by Gibbs is usually Tony. But occasionally Gibbs does dole them out to others, so I thought I’d be fair. McGee has had a bunch and even Ziva has gotten a few, heck Gibbs even gave one to himself once. One of my favorites is the double headslap he gave to Tony and McGee at the same time, but no matter who gets it, I know I always like seeing a good “Gibbslap” every once in a while.

McGee is the head geek on the team and we love him for it. Watching his fingers fly over his keyboard while he spouts gibberish I’ll never comprehend, especially when he’s just seconds away from nabbing a bad guy, adds to the excitement of the chase for me.

Half the fun with Ziva is in never quite knowing what she’s going to say next. Whether she’s trying to voice her frustration and only succeeds in confounding everyone more, or trying to understand what her team mates are talking about, her command of the English language (or lack thereof) is fodder for many of the giggles I’ve had while watching the show.

When I got into NCIS, one of the first things I noticed and like about it was how the team acted as a family. Here is this group of people who spend so much time together that almost none of them have managed to have any sort of home life. So they make one with each other and any time we are treated to a moment where we get to see that, I love it.
So what about you guys? What it is about certain episodes of NCIS that turn them from being simply good, to being great to you?
