WILFRED “Anger” Review

WILFRED

WILFRED “Anger” Season 1 Episode 8 – WILFRED. I hate to say it, but I think I’m over Wilfred. While I LOVED it in the beginning, and I mean LOVED. IT. The last few episodes have been just a little off for me.

Take “Anger” for example. Wilfred discovers that Ryan had a dog when he was younger that accidentally drowned in the family pool. Ryan has been living with this guilt for 20 years, and after finding the old dog’s collar, Wilfred becomes possessed by the old dog.

Ryan is also trying to work off the $5000 that his sister loaned him for his car accident (which I thought was written off in a previous episode), and is helping her set up for a party she’s throwing. THAT was actually pretty funny; I think Kristen is my favorite character on Wilfred right now.

Turns out that Kristen also hates Wilfred which he takes MAJOR offense to… but once he’s possessed by Ryan’s OLD dog, decides to exact some revenge.

Wilfred also tells Ryan basically to man up and tell Kristen off because, let’s face it, she does walk all over him. Ryan can never do anything right, and even when he tries there is ALWAYS something that Kristen tears to shreds.

Doesn’t matter, I still love her. While she is hard and cold, she is HILARIOUS and she actually admits to her neurotic behavior in “Anger”. She admits to a few more things as well, which turned out to be the best part of the episode.

I understand that Wilfred is a dark comedy, and that everything in the show is in fact happening in Ryan’s head. But for some reason Wilfred just keeps getting too over the top for me.

And I don’t know if I’m in the minority with this statement, but does anyone else thing that the show just keeps getting less and less funny? Let me know what you think!

Everyone in the show always has the same attitude –hostile.  And for a “crazy” person, Ryan acts pretty straight — like a fuss budget.  Wouldn’t it be more interesting is the actor played him a little off — like Tony Schaloub in “Monk?”  That way when Wilfred was so mean to him, there’d be a reason for it, and you could actually root for the friendship.  Right now, it just feels that wilfred is a cancer on ryan, despite his preachiness and prentese of “helping” him.

Does Ryan own Wilfred now?  I might have missed that.

Ryan’s sister is the worst part of the show for me and I’ve hated every episode she is prominently featured in. Her character is just too annoying and judgmental.

Wilfred is hit or miss. Sometimes i think his character goes a little overboard and the sex with bear jokes just aren’t funny to me.

Yeah, the bear thing leave me cold.  It’s both silly and hateful at the same time.  Both things make me disengage.
