IN PLAIN SIGHT “I’m a Liver Not a Fighter” Review

IN PLAIN SIGHT "I'm a Liver Not a Fighter"

IN PLAIN SIGHT “I’m a Liver Not a Fighter” Season 4 Episode 7 – I’m sure it was no coincidence that tonight’s episode aired on Father’s Day, seeing as how fathers, mother’s and parenting in general were major themes throughout it.

Their case has Mary and Marshall protecting a man who is a father and a grandfather, dying of a disease that only his son can help him with – the man a dad of his own and unsure if he wants to risk his life and leave his own son without one of his dads.

Meanwhile on the mommy front, Mary wants to do anything but admit that she’s actually pregnant, despite every sign pointing to that fact. As she struggles with acknowledging that this was really happening and not just some dream she could wake up from, I had to wonder what is scaring her more. Is it the idea of just having a baby and all the responsibility that goes with it, plus possibly having to give up the job that she loves? Or is she simply frightened that she may mess things up for a child like her own father did?

In the end, their witness works things out with his kids and gains relationships with a new son-in-law and grandson. Mary, for her part, comes at least to terms with the idea that she is indeed carrying a precious package and I love how Marshall and she chose to go at planning it like a case. Since I myself am having a hard time picturing Mary living the life she does now and having a kid of her own, I think that adoption could be the way for her to go. Of course she could always change her mind but I can’t think of another show where a main character got pregnant and gave up the baby, so this could turn out to be a really interesting story line.

My favorite bits..

“Great, all I need now are my acid washed jeans and a scrunchie.”

Mary struggling to put a shirt on over her pregnancy enlarged..um..endowments.

You know, I think that “perfect is overrated” could be my family’s motto too.

“You led the sharp shooting seminar in WitSec training. I’m pretty sure you didn’t miss the stick.”

Marshall apparently knowing a lot about doctors and pregnancy tests. I’m a woman and I don’t even know exactly how fast blood test works. How the heck does he know? Hmmm.interesting.

Ben hearing that he only had six weeks to live. Jeesh, that’s crazy.

The doc spotting that Mary was preggers. Ha. So much for her theory of a false positive.

Mary calling the attorney “Captain People Skills.”

Mary saying that even the humidity was humid in Miami. Yep, she’s so right there.

Marshall calling Mary a Teamster and her replying by calling him Tinkerbell. Ha!

Freaking out when Mary dove in front of that car.

“You should put some concealer on that.” “What’s the point of that?” “To conceal it…it’s concealer.”

Parachute pants with jelly shoes? Whoa! That must’ve been some look.

Wow, talk about a bad way to find out that your mom had an affair and your dad isn’t really your dad. Yikes.

Marshall telling Stan that the two of them needed to have some serious guy-talk. After the story he told, I think that’s exactly what Stan needs.

Mary kicking the ball and telling the kid to “fetch!” – LOL!

The little boy asking Pop Pop if he was back from him trip. Awwww.

Mary nearly searching for her dad, but pulling out the doctor’s card instead.

Mary adding one more photo to the box from her sister.

A tempted as I was to read the review this morning before I watched the show I resisted.  See your scolding last week had its desired effect!

I agree that I can’t see Mary being a Mother in the traditional way, I can’t see her giving it up for adoption.  Although you are right – that never happens on TV, the same as they never get abortions either.

I enjoyed this episode and definitely had sympathy with the case of the week characters.  However, I must admit that Mary’s pregnancy and its repercussions has much more of my attention.

As always, loved all your ‘favorite bits’, they would also be mine.  I am loving Marshall right now.

Thanks for reviewing and where are all the other viewers – we cannot be the only two people watching this show?

Good girl! LOL. Nah, but seriously if you really *must* read my reviews before watching the shows, don’t let me stop ya.  ;o)

I’m still kinda rooting for the adoption route, mostly because, like I said, it’s never really been done. Also I think that will play out a lot more heavily than if she just kept it. Not that I don’t think she wouldn’t make a great (if unique) mom though.

And look! *points to comment below* we’re not the only people watching! Yay!  o/

Love this show.  You hit all the highlights I believe.  The various daddy issues were a nice theme, especially on Father’s Day. And reinforcing that just being there has some meaning.

“Protect and relocate.”  Perfect for them.  Marshall will protect and Mary will relocate.  I hope they do follow through on the adoption path.

Yeah I agree, I think that Marshall will definitely become very protective now (even more so than before) and Mary will work on the “relocate” part. I’m dying to see this play out.
