EXTREME MAKEOVER: WEIGHT LOSS EDITION “Dana” Season 1 Episode 3 – After watching two episodes of this show, the thing that I’ve discovered is that the ratio of how much I like the episode has a lot to do with how much I like the person they are working on each week. In the pilot, I just didn’t feel that much of a connection to Rachel. In last week’s episode, I felt a lot more connected to Alex and within the first few minutes of this episode, I knew I was going to like Dana.
Of course it could just be that the more of this series that I watch, the more I get into it in general. Either way, I am finding myself enjoying each episode more than the last. For me it’s not just about how much weight these people lose and how good they look when it’s all over. My favorite part is always seeing how much happier they are in their lives as they go through this journey. So the parts I liked the most were where Dana was hanging out with his friends, singing and laughing.
Nothing prepared me though for the life-changing secret that Dana admitted after he just kept not getting the results he wanted. He had been hiding his homosexuality behind his massive body and it was like, as soon as he started taking down that wall, he could finally admit it to people. That was pretty darn fantastic, I must say. I never expected that when I sat down to watch this episode.
My favorite bits..
I think diving into the pool is going to turn out to be one of the best entrances that Chris is going to make this season. Dana’s reaction was absolutely wonderful.
“It’s time for Dana to get used to gravity.” – I loved that. Some days I feel like I’m still getting used to it myself. LOL.
Dana saying he felt invincible after his first workout. I love it when a good workout makes me feel that way.
Chris going through Dana’s fridge, car and trash and finding fast food wrappers. Oh, ouch. That killed me, especially when he admitted that very personal secret.
Chris going off on the guy on the bridge who was mocking Dana. I didn’t blame him one bit for losing his temper.
Smiling so wide when I saw that Dana had made his first goal. I honestly didn’t think he had done it so it was almost as big of a surprise for me as it was for him.
The reunion between Dana and his brother.
Being amazed at how great Dana looked at his 9 month weigh-in. Also enjoying his vids and how much more fun he seemed to be having with his life.
Holy cow! I so knew that Dana was gay but I kept thinking I was crazy since he was talking about marrying a woman in the beginning of the episode. Yay for him!
Dana’s final reveal. Wow, he looked great.
The look on Dana’s face when he realized that he’d lost his goal of 200 lbs in one year.
Dana’s Thank You letter to Chris. I started out giggling when he read it, but nearly in tears when he was done.
