SUPERNATURAL Thursdays: Predictions for Season 7

Like A Virgin

Congratulations Supernatural fans! We survived another season and, more importantly, so did Sam and Dean. Which is actually kinda weird because it almost doesn’t feel like a Supernatural finale unless one of them dies.

Now we all just have to survive the hellatus, and to help get us all through it, Kelly and I decided to give our predictions for what we see coming in season 7. Considering how utterly wrong I was about my finale predictions, I’m feeling a wee bit gun shy, but I figure I’ll go ahead and give it a shot.

I don’t think there’s much need to go into my impressions of the finale as it’s all there in my reviews. One thing I did want to say is that, after a few days to cool off and absorb all that has happened, I am starting to see at least a few positives for this new “Cas as God” storyline.

Supernatural "The Third Man" Review

First up, it’s pretty much old news by now that Misha will not be a season regular next year. I’ve also heard that there will be less of an angel storyline overall, which means that there’s going to be a hole to fill in the series. So I’m hoping that they do it by actually bringing the show back to basics. Sure there is a lot going on that needs to be addressed, but maybe we’ll also get a lot of episodes with the boys just driving in the Impala, listening to classic rock and hunting things.

Secondly, we have to see what’s going to happen with Sam and that wall of his taking a tumble. I did enjoy the fact that he had to fight each version of himself to get his sanity back and regain consciousness. But that may not necessarily be a good thing. I mean Dean was only down there for a few months and he was messed up for a good long while. There’s no telling the damage that was done to Sam’s soul in all the time he was there, and no way to know how it will affect him. I hope that we see him dealing with the repercussions for a while; it would seem more realistic that way (as realistic as you can get with a story about a guy going to hell and living to tell the tale).

I’m assuming that we’re also going to see some new characters next year, but I also hope that Crowley will be back, too. I just love that limey bastard.

Supernatural (CW) The Man Who Knew Too Much

Finally there’s Cas..ah, Cas. My dear, nerdy angel in an overcoat is no more and now that I’ve (mostly) finished mourning his passing, I’m looking forward to seeing what Misha does with this new version. He may not end up in a lot of the season, but I’m sure I’ll treasure every moment. I see Castiel going farther and farther down this dark path and I believe that (hopefully) it lead to his redemption. Maybe his love for the boys (because we know he loves them deep down under all the power of those new wicked souls) will snap him out of it at some point. I picture a moment kind of like at the end of season 5, where Lucifer, (inside Sam’s body) is beating Dean to death and stops when he sees the glint of the little toy soldier in the Impala – giving Sam the chance to fight back. Perhaps Cas will have a moment like that and beat back the evil of the souls inside him. If it’s done as some sort of ultimate sacrifice that would even make me happy, as I’d rather have him die good than continue to live forever being bad.

The Man Who Knew Too Much

Here’s what Kelly has to say:

The writers will have to touch on what happened to Sam when he absorbed soulless Sam and Sam that remembers hell’s energy. We can’t have that happen and then not talk about it, it doesn’t make sense. So I figure that that little piece of information will need to be addressed fairly quickly. Which makes sense – Dean and Bobby will want to know how Sam got to them when he was a twitching mess in Bobby’s panic room.

Dean and Bobby (and probably Sam, too) I feel have their work cut out for themselves. They have a supercharged angel that is on a power trip in the WORST way… and they need to find a way to get him to put the souls BACK into purgatory. Especially because Cas doesn’t seem like a forgiving God, you know? He seems more like a “smite first and then no questions need to be answered” kind of God.

So what will happen with Cas? Well, with Misha not coming back as a series regular I think it’s going to be a big struggle for the boys to get Cas to give up the souls. I mean, God can disappear to heaven… Sam and Dean can’t really go there again, you know? So I feel that a lot of the season is going to be them chasing after Castiel.
