SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (2011) Season 8 Premiere Advance Review

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE used to be my favorite reality show, but with the introduction of a new all-star format and Mary Murphy being gone, last season was just a bit disappointing and I was even considering not watching this season.

But, yes there’s a but, this season actually has two things going for it:

1) Mary Murphy is back – I admit, I really missed her excitement, hot tamale train and yes, even her screams.

2) There will be a top 20 this year which will pair up contestants with each other again. Bad news is once they reach the top 10, they will bring in the all stars again. Boo!

But these two changes are enough to get me excited about this 8th season.

And so with that in mind, I got a chance to take an early look at the two hour premiere which airs today, May 26th, at 8pm on FOX.

As I mentioned Mary Murphy is back which means she’s back during the audition round as well. But that’s not that important during the audition round because at this point it’s all about the talent and there were some pretty great ones this season already. In fact, even though there were a few… not so good auditions, overall there’s a lot of talent this year.

So after two hours, I’m back in baby!

In other news, this season you can expect the rotating judge format to come back since Adam Shankman is currently doing a movie, Rock of Ages, with Tom Cruise.

In addition, for those who watched last season and fell in love with Alex Wang, you will be happy to know that he will be making an appearance this season according to Nigel Lythgoe.

Finally, Tabitha and Napoleon are concocting a new routine for the national dance day which is on July 30th.

And now you are ready for the premiere of So You Think You Can Dance Season 8.
