THE OFFICE “Search Committee” (Season Finale) Review

THE OFFICE “Search Committee” Season 7 Episode 25 – Well, I figured this wold come with the exit of Steve Carell, but I didn’t think it would come this soon. The season finale of the THE OFFICE fell so flat this week that it took some serious will power for me to get through until the end.

I know that my reviews of The Office haven’t always been shining this season, but for a finale episode? I was not imporesed. It seemed to me (and please tell me if I’m wrong in my thinking) that “Seach Committee” was just a way for NBC to get in some cameos.

We all knew that The Office finale was going to be a hunt for Michael’s replacement, but it seemed like a hodgepodge of comedians attempting to be funny, but not really hitting the mark… instead of any sort of story movement for The Office.

From Will Arnett, Ray Romano, James Spader, and (briefly) Jim Carrey, the search for Dunder Mifflin’s next Regional Manager was just a MESS. The majority of the search wasn’t even funny. In fact, I dare say that the scenes that DIDN’T involve a celebrity guest star were the funniest parts.

Creed as working manager made me laugh outloud, with Pam trying to stop the impending disasters that he was bound to create. The Phyllis/Erin story line had moments to it that were remincent of ealier seasons of The Office, and carried that awkward “have to look away from the screen” feeling that we all know and love.

Other than that… I didn’t find “Search Committee” to be anything special. I sincerely hope that the writers can find a way to keep the humor level up on the show without Carell. I think it’s possible – the episode last week sort of proved that. But The Office finale is not an hour of the show that I will rewatch anytime soon.

What do you think? Is The Office done for? Has it been for a while? Am I crazy and is the show still fantastic? Let me know in comments!

Are you kidding, it was great all around, there’s a new dynamic and office’s stuff we hadn’t seen in a long time. For the first time I didn’t miss Steve Carell and I find it possible for the series to move on. Really great stuff in this finale! Hope they’ll deliver like they did this week.

I agree. I have massively critical of the office this year; felt it was done and jumped the shark ago.

However last night was vintage. I was laughing out loud and it felt like it did 5 seasons ago, when The Office was funny, fres, original and fun. Last night I cared about the characters for the first time in along time.

There might be legs on this show yet.

Nope, you’re not crazy. I totally agree. Most of the interviews were not funny at all. The whole episode was just ‘eh’. The thing with Gabe and Andy was way over the top. I was really disappointed in this finale.

I loved it! Best episode I’ve seen in a long time. This made me fall in love with the Office all over again. :)
