THE EVENT “One Will Live, One Will Die” Review

The Event

THE EVENT “One Will Live, One Will Die” Season 1 Episode 20 - Given just how much the characters seemed to do, surprisingly little actually happened in this week’s episode. But it was a good setup for the final two episodes of season 1.

Sophia tells Jarvis that Simon has escaped with a cure for Martinez. Jarvis then covers all his bases, restricting access to Martinez and setting up surveillance on Sterling. Simon does come to Sterling, but they’re smart; they escape, thwart an assasination attempt and deliver the cure to Christina, who administers it to her husband. Will it work? The episode title may seem to suggest so – because the only other person in mortal danger right now is Leila.

Sean and Vicky track down ‘Alex’ and the lungs but they’re too late to stop her from setting up an aerosolized deployment of the virus in the ventilation system of a shopping mall. Thankfully, it’s on a timer. Sean ends the countdown with some nifty technical mojo (i.e. he shot at it). But Alex is already working on plan B. She releases the virus on a bus, recording the effects for Sophia’s scientists to study, and then delivers these records and the bodies to them. But the recordings show that the virus kills too quickly to be effective and the only way to slow it down is to have it mutate – inside a human/alien hybrid.

After her father’s death the previous night, Leila is held captive by Sophia and her people. Since she’s a hybrid and an annoyance making the decision to infect her doesn’t take long. Will she be the one to die?

I enjoyed his episode overall. I like Vicky and Sean saving the day, I like Jarvis being double-crossed, I like this vicious, cold Sophia. But in order to like these things I had to try and ignore the Spanish flu aspect. This has been pretty easy in previous weeks, but now the Spanish flu is actually being used in the USA and it’s impossible to set it aside any longer.

I’m no scientist, but this plot seems to make no sense. Is it possible to aerosolize a piece of lung? Surely it needs to be prepared, the virus drawn out and cultured and turned into some liquid-serum-thing that can be aerosolized? And will infecting a hybrid to mutate it really help? Leila’s body will be more resistant than a humans so won’t the virus mutate to become more aggressive and therefore kill humans even faster? If you’re reading this and you have any scientific/medical knowledge that can explain this, please comment and tell us all how this works.

So now we’re two episodes away from the end of season one. What do you think will happen? Let’s talk this out in the comments and see if we all want the same thing from season one! I’d quite like to see some – though not all – of the aliens arrive to throw the world into chaos. Sean and Vicky getting together would be a bonus. And I’d like to maybe see Sterling become vice-president. A reveal of whether Christina really is an alien would be pretty awesome too!

And finally: is the aliens coming to earth ‘the event’ or is that something else yet again?

The Event so far — excellent actors, the seeds of good drama, but very poor scripts. The season one finale episodes need to set us up for a much better season 2. Where are the talented writers that we all know exist? The LOST writers must be out there somewhere. Did they all retire to The Island?

At this point it’s quite ridiculous to assume that the Event will even have a season 2.

Speaking of ridiculous, how and why the hell were the local law enforcement agents not informed that a covert operation at that location would occur?

I’m still wondering how the President can order military jets to stand down with no one batting an eyelid!

Like the writers of this show, you have to not think in the slightest when watching The Event. Way too many plotholes or bad logic.

Finally an unbiased article about The Event.

I love this show and would kill to see a second season.

The Event has a great cast, awesome cinematography, shocking moments, a really cool storyline, intriguing plot twists, intnse suspense, thrilling action, and just about everything I would want to see in a show.

The Event is BY FAR one of the best shows on TV right now!

What, 4 million viewers per episode isn’t enough? What has the world come to? Jersey Shore and The O’Reilly factor get season after season but good, complex and compelling programming like The Event get cancelled after 1 season because the stupid sheeple of America can’t wrap their puny minds around it??

SAVE THE EVENT! GIVE THE EVENT A SEASON 2!!!!!!
