CAMELOT “Justice” Review

Camelot Episode 5

CAMELOT “Justice” Episode 5 – This week on CAMELOT Merlin has gone mad, Arthur holds a trial, and Morgan furthers her plan to take the throne. “Justice” begins with Arthur and crew riding through a rain storm back to Camelot when they are stopped by a young girl who tells then that her father is about to be killed. There are cut scenes that show the man beating another man in the head with a rock, which doesn’t really sit well with the locals. Turns out the guy killed the “head man” of the village and now head man’s brother is ready for revenge.

Arthur arrives just as the murder is being strung up, and orders him cut down, telling the village that they will hold a trial at Camelot to hear both sides of the story and allow justice to be served. They agree, and off to Camelot they go.

Meanwhile, Merlin has gone crazy and has locked himself in a room in the castle away from everyone. Igraine attempts to talk to him, but Merlin has none of it, even when she explains that Arthur is holding a trial in the main court. Merlin basically tells her it is none of his concern and goes back to the drawings and charts that he has hung all over the place. From what I could see of them, they looked like astrological charts. Arthur eventually visits Merlin, where Merlin tells him that he will not help with the trial. It was Arthur’s idea – he has to see it through.

Arthur questions the charts, etc. and Merlin tells him that he “wanted to lay it all out”, which I assume means Arthur’s rise to the throne, etc.

At the trial, head man’s brother spins a story of his brother visiting the other guy (I’m great with names, can you tell?) to collect the money he was owned for allowing said man to live on his lands. Well… there’s something fishy about his story, and Guenivere gets to the bottom of it by speaking to the accused’s daughter. The little girl tells her that, in their village, the head man “takes” the girls when the become women – and that her father was protecting her from him… which resulted in his death.

Obviously this is unacceptable, and instead of sentencing the guy to death, banishes him from his village. To which I replied “Yep, that’ll last.” I was right, it didn’t.. and the new “head man” of the village basically tells Arthur to shove it – that his rules don’t apply to HIS village. The king doesn’t take very kindly to this and arrives in the nick of time to save the accused once again – and this time lays down the law that the village is now under the rule of Camelot. We’ll see how that goes.

Back at castle Pendragon Morgan is trying to take the crown (still) but with Sybil’s help (and by help I mean with Sybil paying someone to beat the CRAP out of her), she rallies the people and makes them believe that she is on their side. After lying to her people by telling them that she had sent a messenger to Arthur, but he was “too busy” to attend what was ultimately going to be a bitching session.

Needless to say Arthur’s people to take kindly to this and Morgan gives a GREAT speech that basically says she will rule the people the way the need to be ruled… score one for Morgan.

So, a lot of things happened in Camelot this week, but I don’t really feel that the story was pushed forward at all. The only thing that I feel was moved along was Arthur’s trial, and him laying down the law in villages other than Camelot. While I enjoy the show, I find myself waiting for more things to happen… what about you?
