THE MENTALIST “Redacted” Season 3 Episode 20 – This episode really had two cases. The first started out as a pretty standard looking murder until mercenaries, private sector spies and mysterious messages on the victim’s phone popped up. After all of that, you’d think it would be some big baddie who killed the guy, but it turns out to be his girlfriend. All along it was about money, as murder usually is. She may have been ‘doing it from a place of love’ but murder is still murder.
Meanwhile, Jane is on a whole other case, one that he actually started. He hires a guy names Culpepper (a thief the team caught previously) to search LaRoche’s house so that he can get his hands on the shortlist of suspects that led to Hightower and also includes the Red John’s little friend inside the CBI. When Culpepper gets himself caught, Jane has to split his energy between helping the rest of the team with their case, while trying to figure out how to not get caught up in Culpepper’s. In the end he is finally forced to confide in Lisbon, which I was happy to see since I think he should have done that in the first place. It’s about time she knows what’s really going on, though I did appreciate that he was trying to protect her.
This episode proves that we’re getting close to the end of this season as we’re also getting closer to Red John. I wonder if this means that Jane is finally going to come face to face with him.
My favorite bits..
Thinking that LaRoche looked a little less imposing with the dog in his arms. The gun did help though.
The dude working Cho and Rigsby out of some donuts.
Jane is once again right. I never, ever, find something in the last place I’m looking. Sigh.
Jane trying to appeal to a thief’s sense of honor. Lisbon’s remark that the victim’s girlfriend had no other real alibi than being a hippie. LOL.
The cop taking the coin out of Jane’s hand. So much for trying to hypnotize him.
Jane’s continuous attempts to figure out a way to get the better of that darn guard outside Culpepper’s cell.
The look on Cho’s face when he walked in just in time to see Jane’s demonstration of “strange.”
Lisbon finally conceding that Jane has never *intentionally* tried to spoil a case.
Cho holding up that ridiculous (albeit affective) sign.
Finally understanding why Jane was shaking all the soda cans. Such a clever monkey he is. Guess that’s one way to get the guy away from the cell.
The super-speedy time-lapse way they shot the search for the “treasure” in the shop.
Jane using his phone to let Lisbon and everyone else know exactly what was going on in the shop. Once again, clever.
Lisbon handling Jane’s little problem with just one punch. Brilliant!
