SUPERNATURAL “Mommy Dearest” Review

SUPERNATURAL (CW) Mommy Dearest

SUPERNATURAL “Mommy Dearest” Season 6 Episode 19 – A few minutes before this episode ended, I was all set to right about the shock of seeing Eve killed. Sure the boys went out and got themselves some Phoenix ash, but I sure as hellfire didn’t think they would get to her so fast. So much for thinking that this season was going to end with the boys and Eve in some major showdown. Nope, instead it looks like we’re heading for a Cas heavy finale and I’m as excited as a schoolgirl in pigtails about it.

Before I talk more about Cas, I have to say first that I really enjoyed all four of the guys gathering together for a case. It gave everyone a chance to work together, as well as get paired up here and there in different teams than we’re used to seeing normally, and I dug it.

Alright so now let’s talk about the biggest pieces of news from this episode. First of all Crowley is still alive and second of all, he and Cas seem to be in cahoots. So does this mean that Crowley was gathering souls for Cas? We know they are powerful and we know that Cas needs them to win his war, the question is whether or not he’s doing the right thing.

Looks to me that Cas is now in a position that the Winchester have found themselves in time and time again. He obviously thinks that what he is doing is for the greater good, even if it’s not exactly on the up and up. It also looks like we’re going to see a Cas vs. Winchesters showdown and boy is that gonna be something. It’s also gonna be tough for me to choose sides in that one since I love all of them.

My favorite bits..

“Heaven must be missing an angel” – Really dude? First of all, oldest line in the book, second of all..you couldn’t be farther off the mark.

Another great song choice. After all, what is better than Hot Chocolate’s ‘I Believe in Miracles’ for Eve’s trip into that bar?

Laughing my own ass off at this: “It’s not like Cas lives in my ass….Cas! Get out of my ass.” “I was never in your.”

Okay wow. I did not expect Cas to just walk up and fry Lenore’s skull like that.

Dean calling Cas “Smitey McSmiter.”

Bobby complaining about having to work on a tablet. Awwww, poor thing. *insert sarcasm here*

Dean telling Cas that he looked like he was pooping. Gross, but yeah, kinda true.

Cas taking umbrage at Dean saying that Eve had made him limp, and then calling him a baby in a trenchcoat.

The fact that Cas’ go-to for an ailment is a “burning sensation.”

Cas giving Dean crap for taking a while picking the door. Ha! Payback’s a bitch, ain’t it Dean?

Bobby calling Sam an idjit.

Dean referring to the current shifter army as “sick, gooey and dying.”

The fact that everyone kept on calling the creatures “Starships.”

Bobby using the interrogation room to interrogate their “suspect.” Wow, for a second there I thought I was watching a cop drama.

Cas reminding Dean that there was a bigger purpose.

The boys in the front seat smiling at the boys in the backseat. Boy, I’m sure that brought back a lot of memories.

Cas making with the quotey fingers. Nice.

Bobby making Cas an offer to go help him “poke that pig till he squeals.”

Powerless Cas turning out to still have some skills left. I don’t know what Cas did, but it scared the hell out of me.

Cracking up at this: Sam: (looking through his phone) “Crap.crap.crap.” Dean: “Starships?”

Eve switching into Mary’s form. That bitch.

Jumping about a foot off my couch and screaming like a little girl when Joe popped up behind his dad and both boys attacked.

The shock on Bobby’s face when he saw “Mary” in the café.

“Hit me with a wire hanger, the answer’s still no.”

Cas calling out Dean’s name when Eve started biting him. Usually it’s Sam who does that when Dean’s in danger. Interesting that it was Cas this time.

Smitey McSmiterson saves the day! That was beyond awesome.

“I think she turned me into a Jefferson Starship.”

Yes! Yes! YES! And they end the episode with Jefferson Starship’s “Miracles.” Seriously I was so giddy over that, I almost didn’t notice Crowley for a second there.

Ah yes! The only thing you left out was the constant bashing of Cas throughout this episode… Dean seemed to really be giving him hell. In the diner, even Sam said, “You hurt his feelings,” after he said that without his powers, Cas is as useless as a baby in a trenchcoat. Poor Cas :*(. No wonder the next ep…well, I won’t make the mistake of spoilers again hahaha xD

Well I did notice the bashing but I left it out cuz I didn’t like it all that much. LOL. Poor Cas.

Yeah next week does look like…..*avoids spoilers too*

We’ll just have to come back and chat about it after the next ep airs. :o )

This was an awesome episode – totally agree with you.

So, was everyone else thinking, as they drove the kids to their uncle, that it would end badly? I was suspicious from the get go, sorry, after watching so much scifi and fantasy, I’m a suspicious lady….

The obvious parallels between the two boys and Dean and Sam…. clearly to throw us off from being suspicious. Hah, did not work on me….. 8-)
Cas, after frying Lenore’s skull, justifying it with “we need to move things along.” Sorry, that was funny to me….

Where was the Impala this week??

You know, I didn’t have any well-formed thoughts about the kids but that whole part just kept confusing me. It seemed odd that the boys were taking such care with the kids and that Cas was so upset by it. All of that told me that *something* was going to happen with them but it wasn’t until Eve said her experiment had worked that I realized it was the boys.

LOL! Loved that bit w/Cas too.

Sigh….well I guess sometimes she just needs a week off. I’m sure she’s quite a demanding actress and probably asked for some time off. I think she and Bobby’s Chevelle have something going on the side… ;o)
