PARKS AND RECREATION “Jerry’s Painting” Review

Parks and Recreation

PARKS AND RECREATION “Jerry’s Painting” Season 3 Episode 11 – PARKS AND RECREATION this week was fantastic. At a local art show, Jerry enters a painting of his favorite Greek myth. It is a painting of a female centaur…which looks remarkably like Leslie. After a near break down over not being allowed to date Ben (she compares herself to a flickering light bulb – it was fantastic), the “strong, capable” woman that Jerry paints is just the pick up that Leslie needs.

The next day at the office, the flickering light bulb is fixed; Leslie is speaking in very calm tones, and seems completely in charge of herself. However the unlikeable town’s woman Marsha decides that the painting needs to be destroyed, it depicts “bestiality” and well, Leslie IS half nude.

Leslie refuses, and the case is presented and voted in favor of Marsha – the painting will have to be destroyed.

Ultimately, Leslie tricks Marsha and instead of burning the painting, has Jerry paint a different picture – this time with Tom as the centaur… which is not offensive to anyone. (She keeps the initial painting for herself)

Meanwhile, Ben has moved in with April and Andy. What he finds is an insanely messy apartment, and two people that aren’t ready to be out on their own. They have one fork, no beds, and no bank account. Andy stores the bills in the freezer (so he doesn’t misplace them), but has never paid one of them.

Ben takes it upon himself to teach Andy and April how to be “adults” and takes them through opening a bank account, shopping for necessities, and doing laundry.

My favorite lines:

  • Ron: “Why a human would paint scenes of nature is beyond me when they can go outside and stand in it!”
  • Leslie: “That centaur can do anything. Besides ride an escalator or drive a car.”
  • Leslie: “Get out of my way unless you want an arrow in your ass! … Marsha.”
  • Ben about Andy and April going shopping: “There’s a 30% chance that they’ll both die.”
  • Andy to April: “I also want my own fork. Because you eat really slowly.
  • Of course, Parks and Recreation was wonderful and hilarious like it always is – I think this is the only show that I don’t have any complaints about! I am ready to see Ben and Leslie together – bets on who will leave the parks department first?
