NIKITA “Glass Houses” Review

NIKITA (CW) - Glass Houses

NIKITA “Glass Houses” Season 1 Episode 20 – Girl fights and dilemmas galore on NIKITA tonight! “Glass Houses” is one of the few episodes where I found myself looking at the clock every so often and wondering when it would end. It felt like another transition episode, preparing for the end of the season and setting up for a possible second season. Percy “releasing his inner psycho” leads Nikita and Michael to another Guardian. Where is she? How do Nikita and Michael get the black box? Should they help the Guardian escape? How do they hide all of this from Percy?

Nikita is still running the missions, and the guardian (and the means to the black box) is easily found hiding in plain sight. So let’s take a moment for “ice cream?” Funny, flirty delivery of just two words.

And then there’s Alex; what is to be done about her? She is ready to get out of Division and help Nikita destroy Division from the outside. Nikita rejects the idea, though she may rethink things after tonight.

Nathan thinks Alex is in trouble with The Mob, so she tells him about the “government assassins,” only to be accused of wanting to break up with him. The exchange between the two is unintentionally comical. His other scene where he shoots Jaden, and then is ordered to leave, is equally unnatural. I think it would have been far easier to move the story forward if both Nathan and Jaden had died. Of course, this would have been too convenient and obvious.

The episode turned around for the better after Jaden is cleared away by the Cleaner, who has a killer sense of smell. Afterwards there seemed to be twists and turns at every scene. Up until this point, everything is pretty bland, including the dialogue and the actors – even Maggie Q, who usually manages to shine in any scene, comes off looking bored most of the time.

Cochlear implant? The tracker in the neck isn’t enough? They must have really distrusted Alex. Writers are taking the easy way out! I guess killing off Nathan wouldn’t be too much, too soon. Did they choose to keep him alive? I’ve never warmed up to him and Alex as a pair.

Besides being giddy about Jaden’s death, the other highlight of the episode for me was when Michael opens up to Nikita about wanting a future, but not being accustomed to happy, positive endings. Shane West finally gets some meaningful dialogue tonight, and made it believable. It was a nice moment.

How is Michael going to explain how all the agents, except him, were killed? Doesn’t Division monitor the agents’ cell phones and text messages?

What does Percy know? More than he is letting on, if Amanda’s knowledge of things is any indication. His talk about components breaking down, re-evaluating systems and making changes is all very ominous.

Most importantly, how is Alex(andra) going to get out from under Amanda’s heel?
