AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL “Franca Sozzani” Season 16 Episode 10 – With Jacelyn gone after making only two go sees last week, there are only five models remaining: Alexandria, Brittani, Kasia, Molly and Hannah. This week the models are heading for the cycle’s foreign photo shoot, which is taking place in the beautiful Marrakech, Morocco For some reason I always forget Hannah.
Alexandria is like a chameleon. I mean, seriously, she has a gekko at home: okay, so “he doesn’t change, but I do.”
The childhood issues are dragged out for several “poor me” segments. Brittani grew up poor in a trailer. Molly was adopted which is to blame her moody persona. She thinks it’s bull that she has to fake being nice and friendly. Hannah also brings out the childhood, though she’s an only child whose parents taught her to believe in herself. Uh, that’s not a story Tyra can juice.
Hannah has stayed in the background. She doesn’t have the controversy which tails Alexandria, the entertaining moodiness of Molly or the delightful competetive bitchiness of Brittani, but she is gorgeous.
I felt really bad for Kasia when they went through the entire designer catalogue in search for a dress that fits her. Unlike Molly, she knows that it’s easier to get support with a smile than a grimace, and her optimistic demenour is far less grating that Molly’s whinging. Luckily she brought her high heels.
The challenge was a photoshoot atop a camel. Brittani puts her all into the photo shoot, Molly naturally pulls of several genius poses, Kasia is self conscious about her weight, Alexandria’s shoot is too controlled and awkward, though her talk of feeling the shoot with her heart and soul does not impress the taciturn Brit. Hannah gives the photographer exactly what he’s been looking for.
At panel Franca Sozzani, the Editor In Chief of Vogue Italia is the guest judge and she is brutally straightforward.
Brittani is up for judging first. Sozzani is concerned that it’s not natural enough, though the other judges love the “narrative” of the Lawrence of Arabia styled photo. Alexandria’s photo is criticized, and Tyra gives some insight into the model-photography-editorial dynamic. Kasia’s photo is criticized for its stiffness. Molly’s photo is called “amazing” and all of the judges love her shot. Tyra, with her actress comment, is strangely lucid in her critiquing. Hannah’s photo is fauned over.
The final shots were, I thought, a bit disappointing. There were more beautiful stills captured by the film camera than captured by the photographer.
The judges deliberation leads to Alexandria and Kasia in the bottom two, with Molly earning best picture. Runner up goes to Brittani. Straight in the middle, not the worst but not the best, is, once again Hannah.
Going home is… the girl with the attitude or the girl without the body…it’s Kasia.
