MAKE IT OR BREAK IT “The Buddy System” Review April 11, 2011 Make It Or Break It, Reviews MAKE IT OR BREAK IT “The Buddy System” Season 2 Episode 13 – I enjoyed tonight’s MAKE IT OR BREAK IT much more than last week’s episode. “The Buddy System” still finds the girls buried in their own problems. They come up for air just long enough to remind us they are still on the same team, or whatever is left of the team. Coach Darby’s bright idea: Emily, Lauren, and Payson swap routines with one another. Emily (or Em, as Darby calls her) gets stuck working with Darby. Underneath it all, Darby is more rational than her outward “be at peace with yourself and the world” ways. She tells Emily to pull it together because she is running out of chances. Emily struggles with her confining rules, her separation from Damon, and learning her mom works at a strip club. Although driven by fear, her whining is uncharacteristic, since she has always been the one telling the others to suck it up. She said herself that gymnastics and the Olympics are her dreams. Shouldn’t she focus and do what she needs to do and get back on the team? She’s young and has plenty of time for love later. LoLo taunts Payson and her precise, but unfeeling, gymnastic moves. Her attempts to get the boys’ attention, specifically Max’s, fall flat. Score one for Payson! Austin’s bright idea: Payson works on her cat energy and soft and lazy hips, with a dash of scent therapy thrown in. Who knew Austin could be a student of aromatherapy and yoga philosophy? This is an utter failure, of course, but Payson’s clumsy sexy moves are perfectly awkward. Hilarious! Payson usually annoys me, but I loved her in tonight’s episode of Make It or Break It. She has the natural reaction to want to show up “free and flowing” Lauren, but also to be as good as she can be. In the end, she remains true to herself (and accepts who she is) by approaching the sexiness in a more objective way. Plus she gets bonus points for talking Emily out of her funk. Steve’s bright idea: Steve falls for Lauren’s tears and decides not to turn in the training video that was doctored by Lauren to just show Sasha and Payson kissing. Nice follow-through, dad! That will probably come back and bite him in the behind. The “mother argument” can only go so far. When will Lauren deal with her feelings? When will her dad talk to her and get her help? Maeve’s bright idea: Kaylie pits her parents against her counselor. During a therapy session, Kaylie shares that she felt pressure to be perfect for her parents. Does she really feel that way? Calling Maeve for support after fighting with her parents, Kaylie discovers that Maeve died of heart failure (common cause of death with anorexics). How will this news affect her attitude – for the better or for the worse? Hopefully, she’ll finally get a clue. What did you think about episode 13 “The Buddy System” of Make It or Break It?
