GENERATOR REX “Outpost” Episode 29 – This week’s episode of Generator Rex sends Rex and Bobo on a mission to work with Providence in the Amazon to stop the Green Fist organization from releasing captured EVOs.
There was a nice dose of humor sprinkled throughout this episode. I liked Agent Martello’s casual attitude and even though he was simply using Bobo’s official agent name, I laughed every time Martello called him “Agent Haha.” I also liked Rex’s interaction with the townsfolk in the bar. The local specialty, Horchata Anejo made of rice passed through the digestive system of a monkey, sounded absolutely disgusting, but it sure was funny watching Rex try to drink it and then explosively spit it out. The local townspeople in that bar all seemed unusually strong but maybe it’s because they all drink that horchata.
Because Rex was attacked by the poison from the creature, we only got to see him fighting in a limited capacity. I enjoyed when Rex combined forces with the leader of the Green Fist to recapture the creature and I thought they had a good chemistry when they worked together. She’s got unique fighting techniques and I wouldn’t mind seeing them work together in the future.
While there might not have been as much action, this episode of Generator Rex covered a lot of interesting discussion which compared three different points of views regarding how EVO situations should be handled. On one side, you had the White Knight’s strictly managed Providence that treats almost every EVO scenario as a potential threat until otherwise determined. On the other side, the Green Fist believes that EVOs are creatures that deserve to be treated ethically and live freely in a natural environment. Somewhere in the middle is the South American interpretation of Providence, which respects the dangers of some uncontrolled EVOs but in general believes the majority of EVOs are harmless and are only in captivity to put fearful minds at ease.
That’s all fine when they’re talking about EVOs, but how would they all feel about a Chupacabra? It turned out that the poisonous beast was not an EVO at all but is actually a creature of legend. Even if they disagree about the ethical treatment of EVOs, it seems they can all agree on how to treat a Chupacabra. At first Rex pretty staunchly defended Providence, but by the end of it, he was to be able to see the value of certain aspects of Martello’s attitude and even some common ground with the Green Fist’s ideas.
After they discovered that he had released the Chupacabra back into the wild, the townspeople seemed to have fallen in love with Rex and Providence. To be honest, I don’t think I would be all that thrilled if it were me. Obviously, I’d be grateful that he helped my neighbors by providing them with a Chupacabra poison antidote, but there’s still that other lingering problem. I’d probably be more along the lines of… oh, I don’t know…terrified? There’s a Chupacabra on the loose! As someone who wants wild animals to live freely in the wild, I am happy it got away, but I’m also happy I don’t live in a town where Chupacabras suck the blood out of my goats. I guess the woman is happy because Providence is getting her family a new goat, but has she not considered that the Chupacabra will probably return when it needs a goat snack? I think I would have liked Chupacabra to be relocated to a Chupacabra sanctuary or flown deeper into the Amazon jungle where it could frolic freely among the trees without needing to eat a pet goat or attack people with it’s poison claws. That’s just me though. The Horchata Anejo drinking people of that town are not only incredibly strong, but apparently they’re totally cool with their local Chupacabra, so it works out in the end.
In any case, I enjoyed this episode of Generator Rex and I particularly liked the way the different attitudes towards EVOs were approached here. I had fun with Rex and Bobo in the Amazon and I’d be happy to see both Agent Mortello and the Green Fist come up again in the future.
