Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo have signed on for roles in one of the season’s most anticipated pilots (no, not Wonder Woman). They will play opposite Tim Allen in ABC’s as yet untitled comedy. The previously announced project follows a man (Allen) who holds traditional masculine values and is struggling to adapt to a progressive world full of strong women. According to EW.com, Travis will play the character of Vanessa, Tim’s devoted wife and a smart woman who doesn’t miss much. Elizondo will play Ed, the boss of Allen’s character.
This will be Travis’ second pilot this season; she has already booked a guest starring (potentially recurring) role on The CW’s Hart of Dixie. Travis previously starred in Almost Perfect, Becker and The Bill Engvall Show, and recently had guest roles in Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, and Desperate Housewives. Elizondo’s last television role was the recurring character of Dr. Neven Bell on Monk. He also has recently appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, as well as in Cane.
Off the record: I am always amazed that the underappreciated Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo have not garnered more attention for their acting. They are consistently good in the many roles that they have played, yet are only moderately known – and then only recognized by their face, not by name.
