Woody Harrelson Joins HBO’s McCain Campaign Film GAME CHANGE

Woody Harrelson

Add Woody Harrelson to the all-star cast HBO is assembling for GAME CHANGE. TV Line reports the Oscar nominee will play Steve Schmidt, Senator John McCain’s senior campaign strategist and advisor, in the premium cable channel’s film about the 2008 presidential election.

Schmidt joined the McCain campaign in early July 2008 to run the day-to-day operations because of concern the campaign lacked a clear message. As previously reported, Ed Harris will portray John McCain while Julianne Moore will be Sarah Palin.

Based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s book about the inner workings of the John McCain and Barack Obama 2008 presidential campaigns, Game Change will track the McCain campaign from the selection of Sarah Palin as the vice presidential candidate through the general election defeat.

Jay Roach is directing from a Danny Strong script and the pair previously worked together on the Emmy-winning HBO movie Recount.

Harrelson will next be seen in the feature film Friends with Benefits.
