SURVIVOR: REDEMPTION ISLAND “It Don’t Take A Smart One” Review

survivor redemption island episode 7

Survivor: Redemption Island “It Don’t Take A Smart One”, Season 22 Episode 7 – It has always been an opinion of mine that Survivor is one of the best edited TV shows on right now, and Survivor: Redemption Island is no different. The first scene of “It Don’t Take A Smart One” shows us the typical post-tribal drama, and I love how you can see thunder in the sky behind Steve as he talks about the coming storm of hatred brewing between Sarita and David. I applauded Survivor: Redemption Island in a recent review for cutting together the footage of the Zapatera members throwing Stephanie under the bus with some footage of a vulture eating a carcass. I guess it’s not a matter of editing prowess as much as just Mother Nature being very cooperating with the happenings of the tribe, but it’s still really freaking cool.

Man, it’s not even fun writing about Matt winning the Duel anymore! This guy is really quite the dominating force in these challenges, and he’s got a very strong argument to win the million if he’s able to fight his way off of Redemption Island. If anything, he’s probably actually painting a bigger target on his back by performing so well. I mean, this guy is a real threat if he gets down to the individual immunity challenges, although he might be challenged only by Rob and Grant.

As far as “Crispy Ricegate 2011″, the whole thing was a little silly, but I really do think that Phillip has a point. There is an obvious division in the tribe, so he’s right-on there. This guy is just really lucky that his team is on such a long win streak, because he is the obvious one to get rid of if it came to that.

The immunity/reward challenge was another rehash of an old challenge, but it was still entertaining. Bursting through brick walls always looks cool on TV, and the end was really exciting, but a part of me just really wants to happily watch Zapatera’s tailspin. They made a stupid decision to throw a challenge and vote out Russell, and they’ve barely won since. This isn’t a coincidence, you’re just paying for your stupid mistake. You’ve made your bed, now lie in it suckers!

What did you think of the episode? Do you think Matt will win next week to make it to the merge? Who do you have winning the whole thing! Sound off in the comments section below!

Random Thoughts:

- How ironic is it that Phillip, who has mispronounced or misspelled every single name of the other tribe members, perfectly pronounced author Miyamoto Musashi’s name?

- I’m sorry, but who died and made “crispy” the preferred texture for rice? Has anybody ever had some rice and thought “Man, I wish this were more crispy!” Isn’t rice supposed to be mushy? What’s going on here?

- Was anybody else irked by Boston Rob throwing the immunity idol clue into the volcano? It’s a beautiful volcano in a land virtually untouched by mankind, and you throw a little piece of paper into it? Littering is a $1,000 fine where I’m from, and there’s trash all over the place here! It should be $100,000 when the land being littered on is so much cleaner!
