Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) has been chosen as the female lead in A&E’s pilot episode LONGMIRE. The show is based on Craig Johnson’s series of Walt Longmire Mystery novels. Sackhoff will play opposite Australian actor Robert Taylor, who will take on the role of Wyoming sheriff Walt Longmire, Johnson’s central character.
Deadline.com details that the character of Walt Longmire is a “charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin and dry wit.” Sackhoff will play one of Walt’s deputies, just six months on the job, hired after working homicide in Philadelphia for five years. According to Deadline.com, “her relationship with Walt is filled with a playful give-and-take, while a deeper connection and sexual tension simmers beneath.”
Lou Diamond Phillips (Stargate Universe), Bailey Chase (Saving Grace) and Cassidy Freeman (Smallville) have also been cast in the pilot. Phillips will play Walt’s best friend. Chase will play another of Walt’s deputies. And Freeman will take on the role of Walt’s daughter.
The project comes from A&E in partnership with Warner Horizon Television. Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny wrote the hour-long pilot for Longmire. They will also serve as executive producers, along with Greer Shephard and Mike Robin. Greg Yaitanes will direct.
