AMC Developing New Drama THE VOYAGE

With the success of its original television series The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad (and of course Mad Men), AMC hopes to follow up with an equally successful new drama series about mankind’s first contact with extraterrestrial life.

EW.com reports that “John Shiban (Breaking Bad, The Vampire Diaries) is working on a project called THE VOYAGE that’s in contention for a pilot pickup.” The show centers on an “ambitious female scientist who works with a team at the Jet Propulsion laboratory.” It is described as a realistic take on man’s first alien contact. But how exactly would we know if it’s realistic?

AMC has several projects on the drawing board for potential pickup. Besides this one, two others include The Man with the Golden Ears and The 4th Estate. The first is a family drama about a record executive, while the second is a political drama about a Washington D.C. investigative journalist. Yes, pretty boring after hearing about meeting ET.

Currently AMC is getting ready for the premiere of The Killing, the latest addition to AMC’s original lineup. It recounts the murder of a young girl, which prompts a police investigation, and has personal and political consequences for the characters involved. The 2-hour series premiere will air on Sunday, April 3 at 9/8c.

Okay, not another movie or TV series about aliens. :( Just how many do we need? On the other hand, I like John Shiban’s writing in Supernatural though. Not too sure what he’s done for the Vampire Diaries but I’ve heard a producer sort of controls the creative process for part of a series.

Still, aliens? I sure hope he can do it in an interesting manner and that his time on X-files might help.
