5 TV Characters I Wish Were Real

tvcharacters

We all have our favorite TV shows that we watch religiously each week and couldn’t even entertain the thought of missing an episode.

For me, it’s the characters that tend to pull me in and make the show fantastic… and half the time I find myself wishing that they were real people so I could hang out with them.

Making this list of TV characters I wish existed in real life was a lot of fun, and also made me realize a couple of things.

1.) I watch a lot of TV.

2.) I have a very specific “type” when it comes to male TV characters.

Take a look at the list of TV characters that I wish existed in real life below! … and keep point 2 in mind while you read it. ;)

SAM WINCHESTER

SUPERNATURAL - Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in "Malleus Maleficarum"

Okay, this was an absolute no brainer for me.

I’ve been addicted (and somewhat obsessed) with Supernatural since it debuted in 2005. From the start, I’ve always liked the younger Winchester, and really, REALLY wished that a Sam would just miraculously appear on my doorstep.

Here I am six years later and still with no Sam (thanks universe!), but I do get to watch him every Friday night. Why do I want Sam to exist in real life? For a few reasons.

He’s a genuinely nice guy (save episodes at the beginning of season 6. Maybe I should clarify – I’d like a season 1 or 2 Sam), he’s smart, he’s gorgeous, and since I have a fascination with the paranormal, I’d really like a first hand play-by-play of some of the hunting trips he’d been on. And… maybe even tag along?

And, well, the kid has been through a lot in his short life, and I’d really just like to give him a hug and make life all better.

But it’s mainly the ghost hunter thing.

SETH COHEN

sethcohen

I would give up limbs to have my very own Seth Cohen.

While he’s a child of THE OC, Seth is pretty much the opposite of the other characters on the show. He’s geeky, awkward, shy, loves indie rock, and reads comic books.

For crying out loud, the guy wrote a comic book starring his own circle of friends, and made himself a character called “The Ironist”. Now, since those reading this don’t know me personally, let me just tell you that irony and sarcasm are near and dear to my heart. From the moment I started watching The OC when Seth is introduced playing “Grand Theft Auto” I fell in love.

For a geek girl, there is no better character than Seth Cohen.

SPENCER REID

CRIMINAL MINDS - Matthew Gray Gubler as Dr. Spencer Reid in "Damaged"

I told you I had a type.

Reid will conclude my list of smart, geeky guys, but he does need to be mentioned. Coming from the show CRIMINAL MINDS where he works as an FBI agent, Reid is a genius.

No, seriously. His IQ is 187, he can read 20,000 words per minute, and has an eidetic memory. The smart guys do it for me, what can I say?!

Reid can spit out facts and statistics about any topic, and what I love most about him is that he’s unapologetic about his brain. It just is, and like it or not, that’s just how he is!

BUFFY SUMMERS

buffy11

What can I say about Buffy that hasn’t already been said a million times? Buffy is a Vampire Slayer. She can kick ass with the best of them, and look good doing it. She’s loyal, she’s protective, and she’s always ready with a witty remark or a pun.

Did I mention she’s a tiny blond? That just makes her MORE awesome. She keeps the world safe, but still manages to stay in school, or raise her sister, and stop the apocalypse on countless occasions. Um… do I really need to say why I want Buffy to be real?

I’d like to be a part of the Scooby gang!

LORELAI GILMORE

lorelai

Lorelai is the older GILMORE GIRL, she owns an inn, and is amazing. She’s fast talking, full of pop culture references, and drinks coffee by the bucketful.

I would LOVE to hang out with Lorelai; I would love to have the long involved, conversations about pop culture with someone like her. She can hold her own in obscure references, and I appreciate that.

In addition to the pop culture, she would keep things really light and fun; no depressing conversations here!

That’s all she wrote my friends! My five TV characters that I wish were real. There are A LOT more that I wanted to add (Lucas Scott, anyone?!), and I’d love to hear yours! Let me know in the comments below!

Great list! I can see wanting any one of these people as real life friends. But more than anyone, I 157% agree with Lorelai! I’m pretty sure that if she were real she would absolutely be my BFF. In addition to being fun and witty, she is FIERCELY protective of those she loves and I love that about her. She would be on my list!

    Others on my list:

Penelope Garcia (Criminal Minds). Lorelai, Garcia, and I would be the most awesome of BFF trios! Garcia is fun, funny, carefree, brilliant, witty, and downright cooky! Love her.

Dean Winchester (Supernatural) and/or Jim Halpert (The Office) and/or Pacy Witter (Dawson’s Creek) and/or Ryan Atwood (The O.C.) would be my Sam/Seth combo. I love them all far too much to love any fictional character. It’s hard for me to pick just one; it all depends on my mood.

Charlie Kelly (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia)! I feel like he’s the member of the Sunny gang with the best of intentions. Plus, I would teach him how to read.

You know, I could’ve probably done your list for you…lol.

Although I don’t think I would’ve said Charlie, but replaced him with Jack Donaghy or Hotch from Criminal Minds.

      • Kat

hahahaha!! I do love my Jack Donaghy. That’s awesome.

    My list would be:
    1. Faith Lehane – Beautiful, tough and ruthless.
    2. Alec Hardison – Cool and nerdy. The type of guy I like to hang out with.
    3. Chuck Bartowski- Also cool and nerdy. Great person to hang out with and talk random comic book trivia.
    4. Rebecca Logan – She’s smart, sexy. ambitious and completely ruthless. My perfect woman.
    5. Prudence Halliwell – She was smart, beautiful, sophisticated and driven. She also had telekenetic powers. Need I say more.

    • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

      Hi!

Chuck and Pru are two that should have thought of. Although, I would probably pick Piper over Pru. I always liked her better.

  • Pat

Also being a nerd lover, but probably a bit older than you, my list of 5 is slightly different….

    1) Daniel Jackson, Stargate SG-1
    2) The Winchester boys, Supernatural (counting them as one, since they belong together… LOL…)
    3) Mr. Spock, Star Trek
    4) Mr. Data, Star Trek, TNG (do androids count as people?)
    5) Tim McGee, NCIS

Ok, so maybe Dean is not a nerd, but Sam is, and as I said, they come as a set in my mind… 8-)
This is a very fun topic – thanks for writing it!

    • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

      Hi Pat!

Hey, all nerd lovers are welcome wherever I write! I’m pretty happy to say that I know who each person is on your list, and I’ll even allow the meshing of the Winchester brothers for the reason that you said. They SHOULD come as a pair…lol.

And sure, androids can count as people! Thanks for commenting! :)

As soon as I saw Sam Winchester, I knew you wrote this piece Kelly! I agree with most of your list. I am not as big of a fan for Sam and Seth, but man would I love to be friends with Buffy, Lorelai and Spencer.

The people I would add to my list to replace the two I removed from yours would be Kalinda from the Good Wife and Carrie from Sex and the City. Yes, apparently I like the girls.

    Great article!

    • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

LOL! I think I’m getting quite the reputation for putting Sam Winchester in anything that I write. I’m okay with that.

GOOD call with Carrie. Even if just for sharing her shoes! I’ve never seen the Good Wife, so I can’t really say anything about Kalinda.

  • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

I can’t believe no one mentioned Veronica Mars!!

Great list Kelly, but to be honest, my list would be very different than yours. So I guess I now have to come up with my own list don’t I?

    Ok here we go:

    1) The Doctor from Doctor Who
    2) Captain Jack Harkness from Torchwood
    3) Veronica Mars from Veronica Mars
    4) Kahlan Amnell from Legend of the Seeker
    5) Merlin from Merlin

But really, if I only got The Doctor out of those 5, I could die happy! :)

    • Anonymous

I forgot about Veronica Mars, probably because I didn’t get into the show until the end. I still have to catch up from the beginning!

      • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

Oh Dani, you’re going to love it. The first two seasons are the best and it’s one of my all time favorite shows.

        • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

Veronica Mars was one show that I never watched! Sandie, if you say that it’s good, I’ll have to find the DVDs.

          • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

OMG Kelly, get those DVDs right now!

            • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

LOL! Yes ma’am! I’m adding them to my queue as we speak.

    • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

Your list IS different from mine! And I think it’s because I’ve never seen those shows!

I know, I’m a disgrace. I’ve had Doctor Who sitting in my netflix instant queue for MONTHS and just haven’t watched it yet!

      • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

Oh wait no, watch Doctor Who, RIGHT NOW! Then get the Veronica Mars DVDs. Doctor Who is pretty much my Supernatural. Meaning my favorite show :)

Season 1 with Christopher Eccleston is pretty good and it might be a bit hard to get into at first because the special effects sometimes look cheap, but if you can suspend reality and get into the story, it’s amazing!

I actually recently had a Doctor Who night with some friends to convince them to watch the show. So we showed them a few of the key episodes that didn’t spoil what happens in the seasons too much and one of my friends became obsessed with the show after that.

I am telling you, Doctor Who has some of the best storylines that I have ever seen anywhere else, and definitely the BEST season finales.

Seriously Kelly, you NEED to start now!! …. Did I convince you? :)

Ok, one last thing, it’s like me telling you that I’ve had Supernatural on my Netflix queue forever… are you convinced now?

        • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

I’m REALLY excited to start it, I hear such great things about it!! Since it’s your Supernatural, I will for SURE bump it to the next thing on my list. Which would mean this weekend, I’ll be starting Doctor Who… and I will let you know what I think.

Based on what I’ve heard I’m going to love it! And yes, you did convince me with your Supernatural comparison, I’ll watch it right away!

          • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

Yay! Can’t wait to hear what you think.

I’d love to have Castiel , Dean Winchester and Bobby too. Maybe Veronica Mars? It’d be fun to have a private detective who’s quite smart.

Other than that, I’ve only started getting back into American TV so not too many characters to go by. :P I doubt anyone would know who The Monkey God is so I’m not going to start going into non-American characters. Too confusing. =P

To Kelly: finally got off my arse and replied to you in that longish Supernatural page. :P

    • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

Hi Lucy! I’ll have to go check the SPN page; I haven’t had a chance to reply to anything lately!!

I’ve never seen Veronica Mars, but from the comments on here, I think it’s something that I’m going to have to watch soon!

Oh dear, I seem to be having some problems with my proxy… I keep double-posting by mistake everywhere(not just this site). Ugh! Furthermore, I was logged into someone elses’ account and posted under it by mistake. Darnit!

Oh I love a fellow Sam-girl! I’ve always maintained that I’m “Team Winchester” all the way…but Sam has wedged himself into a special place in my heart and I love him for it! :)
    Lessee…who’s on my list…

    1. The Brothers Winchester (yeah, I’m pulling the “They belong together” cop out too…cause I can. ;)

    2. Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap – what can I say? I have a thing for hot, nerdy Sams…

    3. Jayne Cobb – ’cause honestly, he’d be up for anything! I think he’d be a riot to hang out and have a beer with.

    4. Cooper Hawkes from Space: Above and Beyond – Tall…check. Broody…check. Rough life…check. Amazingly loyal…check. Adorable floppy hair…check. Hmm, I might have a type as well…lol.

    5. Rupert Giles – god I love him….so much. He’s just…amazing. Smart, adorably British, Father-figurely, loves to sing…so much depth in one nerdy, tweedy librarian. I would love to pick his brain…the accent helps too. ;)

    Great article! :)

    • http://www.kellymichele.net Kelly

      Yay! Another Sam fan!!

Since I allowed the boys to be considered one by another person, you can claim them as one as well…lol. I LOVE the addition of Giles. He is fantastic and wonderful.

  • Kat

I need to amend my list. Sorry, Charlie Kelly you’ve been booted for Sgt Malcolm Reynolds!
